Walking Fort Worth

what courses are walkng friendly

Hello WRX'ers,
I'm looking to walk some this year in the Fort Worth Texas area. What courses in the area are friendly to walkers? Different fee versus riders and generally easy to walk.

I'm not on that side of the metroplex, but if it's anything like the Dallas side, your public options are going to be limited to older munis.

It seems like many DFW courses are not walker friendly. Many are spread out over large areas that make walking unreasonable. And others just seem to discourage walking by including the cart fee in the price and acting like extracting it out will tilt the earth off it's access.

One the other hand, many private courses have no issues with people walking. Which makes me think it's more about the revenue carts generate for public courses than anything else....

Erm, kinda depends on what time you're going and how much you wanna spend.
Many of the public courses are decent walks, but they usually are unwelcoming to walkers. They either make you wait till super twilight or by trying to pair you up with riders so you're almost forced into a cart anyway.
E.g Grapevine, Cowboys, Iron horse and Fossil creek.

Most of the municipals are welcoming to walkers and some are fun to walk, but many of them are poorly taken care of, just because they can't compete with the nicer more expensive public and private clubs in the metroplex, so you are definitely taking a gamble.

Good course that allow walking are Tangle Ridge in Grand Prairie, Tierra Verde in Arlington. I also never had a problem at Iron Horse as a matter of fact it always played so slow that just sitting in a cart would have just infuriated me. If you want a true hike try Waterchase...I'm not even sure if they allow walking there.

Most muni courses encourage walkers. My suggestion would be Pecan Valley. Hawks Creek would be a good course to walk as well.

Pecan Valley (River) is one of my favorite courses - classic with some beautiful holes, and seems to be in great shape. Played a ton of golf there growing up, and my best rounds as well. I just walked Fossil Ridge 2 weeks ago, and not an easy course to walk at all, even though it's a beautiful course. Some greens you can't immediately walk to, and there are a ton of water hazards fronting greens.

I'm sure walking Fossil Creek was a B. My vote would be Tierra Verde, Texas Star and Prairie Lakes (in Grand Prairie).

For sure Ft. Worth Pecan Valley River course. Right now the course is in excellent shape, walking (carry or push/pull cart) is easy as there are no big hills and from green to next tee area are short walks. Around $25 on the weekends............one of the best values you'll find in the Fort Worth area.

Cleburne Golf Links is about 35 minutes south of Fort Worth, I walk it a couple times a week.
