Taylormade V-Steel: Band of Brothers

Putting my 18* w/ Purple Ice back in the bag, finally got it through my thick skull that have always hit best fairway wood shots with this paired with a 300 tour 15* that is similarly shafted. The V steel 18* is simply the best 5 wood for my game ever.

I've always liked that the 18* and 21* have a noticeably smaller size than the 13 and 15*. My vote for the best looking "compact" modern higher loft fairways

I've had various iterations of this club and yes it's on the Mount Rushmore of fwy woods. I remeber the first time I got this club off ebay with an excellent shaft. My golf buddy tried it off the tee a few times and knew instantly that it was the exact fwy wood for him. How many of us have been on that endless search for the perfect 3 wd? In any event he wouldn't stop badgering me to sell it to him. The whole round he kept asking that he had to have it. I'd put this back in the bag anyday.

Belated thanks to those who replied to my post months ago lol.

Finally got the shaft I want to put in it, it is an Aldila nvs 75x .350 :). Before that happens has anybody sent a vsteel to continental golf? Anything cool they can do to it?

The guys at Continental do a stellar job in refinishing V steel fairways back to original. They actually will tell you that the gloss black V steel refinish is a personal favorite of the staff there. I had them refinish a V steel 5 wood that came out wonderfully and currently play a 300 tour 15* 3 wood that had them refinish in V steel gloss black and make some subtle paintfill changes on sole.

So my longest-tenured club is a V Steel 7 wood (better for my purposes than any hybrid I've ever hit) with a Stiff steel shaft. I really need to get an X-flex shaft into it but am not sure where to source one from. Any ideas?

So I just realised I inherited a very lightly used V steel 15* 3 wood from my pops. He didn’t really play golf. Mostly just hit some range balls from time to time. My question is what should I do with the shaft. It’s a regular flex ultralight MAS shaft. Don’t know anything about it. I have always played shift shafts. My swing speed is about 103 mph with driver. Any insight in this shaft, is it good, should I play it, or what shaft should I have put in it? Thanks. Should I replace my epic 3 wood with the v steel? 001a9vmmfzo6.jpeg

Agree with BMC here. The V-steel _may_ feel better than your Epic, but the Epic will almost certainly perform better. That stock MAS2 shaft is junk as well, so you'd need to upgrade. With the right shaft, the V-steel should perform very well for you, BUT 1) unlikely even then that it would be better than your current Epic, and 2) why go to all that trouble?

Don't get me wrong, I love V-steels (7w has a permanent spot in my bag), but unless you want to play older clubs --which is fun, by the way-- I'd stick with your Epic.

V steel 5 wood strikes again. In the rough, 215 to pin, smooth 5 wood launches high with draw on the green. Never even hit this club at the range, probably have not hit this club in 5 months no joke. The stock stiff def launches a little high with too much spin but its just reliable so it stays in the bag. Still love the feel/sound of the thing.

New to the forum and bumping this zombie thread. Looking for a shaft suggestion that is relatively affordable for my 15* 3 wood that still has the stock Stiff in it. Having recently discovered Golfwrx you psychopaths have me interested in reshafting and club swapping. Just a bit of info for shaft suggestions for me. Decent driver club head speed usually around 100-105. I play the stock Ping stiff Alta CB in my G400Max driver but I do think it launches too high and maybe a bit whippy. I tried the Tour 65 S in that same driver and it was too stout for me. Also, I just came of a weekend golf outing playing my buddies Original RocketBallz 3 wood and it was magical. Of course because of you all I bought that club already but I it does take a perfect strike off the deck for me. Looking for a lower launching/spinning shaft to put in the V-Steel. I want to revive the STEEL. Help!

Shaft options that are solid in a v steel: blueboard, purple ice if you can find it, rombax which was stock in some v steels, prolaunch red, vs Proto, those should be a solid place to start.

Steel shafts are solid supposed to be awesome, but I’ve never had one in a v steel

If anyone has a 16.5 head they’d like to move off of pm me. Been wanting to get back into the vintage saddle to do a side/side to the baffler.

Appreciate the response man. I’d did hunt for Blueboard and Purple Ice but not much luck. Found a fairly cheap new Project X Black in S+, 6.0 with the .350 tip on RBG yesterday. Gonna put that in the 15* and see how it goes. I’ll let y’all know.
