New Putter versus Carbite Tungsten Mallet?

Looking for a similar putter with face insert

Hi All,

I'm returning to the game and recently tried out a few putters at Edwin Watts and a local Boca Raton shop. While the mid-belly putters look interesting to me, I think at this point I'll stick to a 34-35" putter.

I have a Carbite Tungsten weighted Mallet with a double bend shaft (circa 1997-8'ish). In my few rounds since beginning to play after a 12 year hiatus, I am actually making puts :)

What "current" MFG has a face-ballanced tungsten perimeter weighted putter like the Carbite? I was thinking to get one with a face insert for softer feel.

I seem to remember the idea behind the softer face insert was that on the chance you contact a ball-dimple-ridge, that the face insert absorbs this and gives more solid contact.

Please make some recommendation to something newer, but similar to the Carbite.

why change if you're actually making putts wtih it?seems like a waste of money to me

True that. However being about 15 years old, its not going to last forever.

many, many people on this board have (and use) putters that are WAY older htan 15 years. there are tons of people here still playing old pings that are 30-50 years old. many poeple still playing tei3s from '97, or earlier model camerons or bettinardis. tons of people still playing 8802s. true, it wont last forever, but it will last a long time if you take care of it (plus, tungsten is a way harder metal than anything cited above).

... Someone ought to take the Carbite ZG Mallet, and replace the Aluminum center section with black carbon Fiber, paint the alighment lines white, and add a nice face insert. That would increase the 'polar' nature of the putter. like I said, I like it. Ebay has some beat up ones, but mine looks a lot better than those.

I'm using a very nice Carbite ZC that I found on the Bay for about $20. It may have a chance at kicking my Never Comp Z/I Sigma out of the bag. Stick with that old gem if it's working for you.
