strongest/best
Awhile back I bought a bag of tees from Target and they're terrible. They break easily and split in the strangest way. It's almost like they're made of balsa wood. Anyway, a friend mentioned ZEVO tees but I can't find them. I'm wondering what the best wood tee is out there. I like regular sized tees and also the 4 inch ones for when I really want to bomb it.
Any thoughts on tee preferences?

Just what Rules or Etiquette issue is involved here?

These Epoch tees - are they plastic? Do they leave the same white tee marks that white wooden tees leave behind?
The white ones I hit don't leave any marks, but they also make a "brownish" version in case you are skeptical. They are all some sort of plastic/composite plastic.

Rules allow for up to a 4 inch tee. I'm a tall guy so it doesn't bother me playing it that high but it freaks some guys out. For whatever reason I tend to hit it well this way but I know it's a bit of a band-aid for my swing. I started doing it after I read an article in Golf Digest about catching the ball on the upswing for more distance. If I'm not mistaken though, brush tees aren't allowed in competition. I like using those on the range though. Same height every time and rarely breaks.

Hey Chief, I' can see how you would find this amusing but I get annoyed when the tee gets these strange crescent-shaped gouges out of the side or breaks in a strange place and frequently too. I burned through a bag of those Target tees in a month. It's just a nuisance. I played a round recently with the pro at my club and the first thing he said was, "get them at Target?" It would be nice to have a few strong tees in my pocket last a round.

Honestly you probably have an issue with your swing if you are breaking that many tees. I usually play an entire round with one wooden tee but, pick up broken ones on the par3 holes. I think plastic would be your only option really.

The wooden tees at Walmart are pretty good...I play the natural color & a bag will last me all year. Think the name brand is Club Champ, or something like that.

I know they are available in 3.25 inches...not sure about 4.

You are mistaken unless you can quote an authorized source to contradict that "brush tees are permitted in competition".

I guess the part where some spend more time looking for the $1.00 tee than the ball they hit OB.

It's just a tee. If it isn't readily visible on the tee box, leave it. The game is slow enough already.

Just use the free ones or buy 'em in bulk.

The ones my club has for free in a bowl on the counter seem to be completely unfinished. Light brown wooden tees and you can feel the grain in them. If one gets wet the water soaks in just like any other raw wood. I also like how they get all mud soaked and dark looking near the point after you've used one several times.

For some reason I like them not being finished. In addition, of course, to not making white marks on my driver. What idiot started painting tees white, for goodness sake?

I'm guessing the "unvarnished" ones are just cheaper but maybe they biodegrade faster or something. Free is good, though. Although we do have a jar there that I toss a dollar into once or twice a month.

Zero Friction for driver, broken tees on the tee box for anything else.

As someone else said, they don't break, you only lose them.

I ask my playing partners, "Can you keep an eye on my tee?" They ask, "You mean your ball?" I reply, "f*** my ball, these tees are expensive." Joking of course.

Agree. I don't really break a tee with the driver, but sometimes they flip out of the ground. If I don't see it I just move on. And I use broken tees for anything I might tee up if it's not a driver.
