Playing a round at The Hills CC (Signature Course) in Lakeway tomorrow morning. Never played there before, what should I expect?

Haven't played there yet. Let us know how it is.

It was alright. Private course. I didn't play my best at all and the tight fairways and approaches got me good that day. The greens were great and layout was nice, but definitely not worth the $125 guest fee they charge.

so...the city courses have an interesting deal, which runs from nov 1-feb 28...4 months golf for $500, with a $3 round fee during the week, and $7 fee weekends, but it includes range balls (which i hardly ever use before a round, but would use them for practice, cuz i like to practice at gsmith)...

did the math on it, and with my schedule, i could get 41 rounds in, at a cost of about $19 a round (minus selling range tokens on the side in the parking lot, lol)

tempting...especially since i walked on at kizer yesterday and was charged $50 instead of $39! winter rates, i assume...

if you dont want to hear how i did, stop reading now...and you know who you are! j/k

my drive on 16 hit the cart path and landed next to the black tee on 17! lobbed it about 4ft from hole, drained putt! 78

what a game...

  • 2 weeks later...

Anyone been to/have any experience at Club Champion over off 360? Need some work done on a few clubs and thinking about getting on their Trackman.

Not sure about them retrofitting clubs but just visited the Davenport location for a new club fitting and really liked it. Its worth a visit just from the standpoint of the new information they brought to the table for me.

This may sound (or actually be) a dumb question, but is it a properly fully kitted out shop? With lots of grips and the like in stock?

With GS soon to be no more, I'll need to find a new spot for those wear item replacements.

i'm sure dick's will keep the 2 stores open here, and certainly the one on 35...i hope!

According to someone in the Golfsmith thread, with Store 1 being the one off i35:

I went to Store 1 today and spoke to a few folks. Liquidators come in Tuesday and are fundamentally in charge. They will start at 5% to 30% off - they did not mention if the discount will be off currently ticketed or list price (I think it is likely off list). Also note that store 1 also has the warehouse and distribution stock so they may have a lot of inventory to move. Store folks do not know if they are working at all past Monday - Liquidators could bring in their own folks. I will drop by store 1 sometime Tuesday and share what I learn.

Visited the store on I35 today. It is in liquidation - all sales final, will be closing sometime in the near future. Not really any great deals at this point. I don't know about later. They did have a golf bag full of pulled shafts for about $20 each. Some very good shafts - but a couple of generations old. Such as a V2 for $19.99. That's a good deal if you need an extra shaft.

Grips are 30% off - that's a good deal if you are looking for new grips.

I also stopped at the store on 183. It is not closing and did not have any of the discounted prices. FYI.

Tour Edge Exotics C721 driver, Integra 45g L flex shaft
BombTech 2 HW 16*

BombTech 5 W
TM Sim2 19* hybrid
Maltby KE4 Max 5 - PW, Recoil Dart 65 A flex shaft
Maltby TSW-KRM 50*/54* wedges, Recoil 75 R flex/spinner shaft
Bettinardi Studio Stock #5 putter

I was told by two people at the HQ store on I35 in Austin that it and the driving range would close as soon as they have liquidated the merchandise in store. The 183 smaller store is to remain open. Buy kiss the opportunity to try clubs on real grass goodbye. It's a shame the leadership mismanaged the business so poorly. Even when golf was "growing" I thought the store was too big. Going to miss the range, though. One employee said he thought Dicks would sell the whole property or develop it.

Agreed. I stopped bye hoping to find some VDR grips but they didn't stock them. Otherwise their 25% off used clubs only gets them down to more expensive than GG, Dallasgolf, and eBay, as opposed to eff-off more expensive. If they got down to 25% on bags or shoes then maybe there's a deal. Otherwise it's just a grim, upclose look, at how a company is wound up and liquidated.

Anyone play teravista or star ranch lately?

How are the conditions? Which would be recommended on a first timer on both courses?

Bear in mind, this is my first go-round of Texas courses, so I don't know how good of shape it should be in. But anyways...

Was out there Saturday morning. It was a grey, misty, damp round, with showers for 15mins, but otherwise no precip.

The greens were sandy and still recovering. Few squishy areas out there, but nothing tee to green impacted play.

In that neck of the woods, I've found Sun City courses I've played the past few weekends (Cowan Creek, White Wing) in better shape, especially the greens, and more interesting/enjoyable courses.

Seems like a pretty accurate description overall compared to the Sun City courses. Teravista is close but not quite up to those ones. Usually in good shape though.

How was tpc? Tpc scottsdale was not particularly interesting at all...Bluebonnet later this morning, football tomorrow, and golf fri, sat, sun to be determined, lol... mo wms didnt overseed...greens are faster than they look...had a lot of 3 footers coming back...wish they'd do something about the trees on #1, which should be on the other side of the cart path, which would open up the fairway and get everyone off to a good start on the round, lol
