Pitching wedges??

Getting ready to custom order Titleist AP2. I'm thinking about not ordering a PW. I have Vokey 52 & 56. My thought process is since I feel these wedges are the best on the market, why wouldn't I play a Vokey PW as well. So, my question to you guys is.... How many people play a Vokey or Cleveland or brand XYZ that is different from your set? Also, if my thinking is flawed, please insert your opinion as of why I should just get the AP2 PW.

Thanks,

If you mainly play full shots with your PW, get the AP2. If you often use PW it for touch shots around the green, get the Vokey

I agree with Scoot in that it really depends on how you use your pitching wedge. If forgiveness is a concern of yours, then go with the Ap2. In my opinion, vokeys are much easier to flight down, especially since Ap2's launch the ball rather high naturally. I play Ap2 712's and have 3 vokeys but chose to keep the Ap2 PW because I only use it for full shots. The Ap2 wedge also feels much softer than the face of a vokey to me.

You will have a big loft gap the ap2 is 47 degrees I would get both the pw and the 52 sine the 9 iron is approx 43 degrees

I use the pw from my set because I use it for full swings. The gap between my pw and gw is approximately 12-14 yds. Personally, going from a 9 iron to a full gw is just too much space for my liking. I'd order the pw just in case. If you find that you don't use it then you could always put it up on the Bay... Good luck with your decision.

I play a cleveland 588 p special wedge (the original version in rtg). well actually two lol. Play r7s with kbs tours and hated how thick the pitching wedge sole was so bought the 45 degree as a direct replacement. then i use a 588 49 degree p special. do not have a problem on full shots alot easier to control the trajectory and use it for touch shots and knockdowns.

Lots of people will say that they use the set's PW because

1) today's PW is yesterday's 9i, I don't know if that's true for the AP2s though
2) if you're using it for full shots, it may be beneficial to use a club with the same "specs" as your set.

but nothing is written in stone, that's a great thing about golf.

run of the mill driver with stock shaft
a couple of outdated hybrids
shovel-ier shovels
wedges from same shovel company
some putter with a dead insert and
a hideous grip

I own a Vokey 47* and also the PW that goes with my set (MP 62). My solution, play both!! Seriously!

As others have said the Vokey will be better at a variety of shots, while most PWs that go with a set are one trick ponys and only work best on full shots.

This is kind of outside of the question asked, but to me the best PWs are blades. I played MP14s and loved the PW and also played Nike Blades, and that PW was my favorite of all time. For some reason they seem to offer the best of both worlds . . .

Play what you want and what you like. It shouldn't be too hard to imagine how a 47* vokey will perform on full swings, it'll perform pretty darn close to your 52*, only you'll hit it 15 yards further. If you love the AP2's then get the AP2 PW. There's nothing wrong with getting the AP2 gap wedge either. It's what YOU prefer.

This.

I play two pitching wedges, one from my set (45* Adams A4) and one from my wedges (48* Renegar RX12). Adams A4 for full shots as a 10 iron and Renegar RX12 for partial-swing, touch and pitches.
