I'm hoping maybe someone can answer this. I recently purchased some new MPT4 wedges and they had the stock grips on them. I played a few rounds and they produced crazy spin, where it was hurting my game. I was going to get rid of them but I decided to put my standard lamkin mid size to match the rest of my set. Since swapping to mid size they have less spin which is perfect as the balls stops on the spot now rather than spins back two to three metres.

Is there any reason I'm getting less spin with the mid size grip? Or is it all in my mind?

Grip size is only related to comfort. For those who suffer from arthritis it is imperative to get the largest grips that still feel comfortable to you.

Anybody who tells you that grip size correlates to open/closed club face is an idiot. Don't listen to them. That is completely false. Old wives tale similar to rust on a club face inhibiting more spin.

Grip size is PURELY for comfort. That's it.

It is all about feel but how the grip feels can impact what you do with your hands during the swing. However, there is no automatic cause/effect between shot shape and grip size. It is completely subjective and everyone can get different results. So although it's not completely in your mind, the mind does play a big part in it.

I'm resurrecting this thread.....because I pull alot of my shots. I found an old eye 2 six iron with a midsize grip on it, and I just tried it one evening. Boy I was ripping the flag stick with the thing and boy the grip felt good....so I've changed all my grips to midsize and see what happens.

I'm hoping it will benefit me because 1. After a work accident my right small pinky hurts like hell alot, so I have to use the 10 fingered grip and there's less shock 2. I pull - over draw the ball alot.....I'm in awe of golfers would hit a big high fade!!

Will thicker grips make it more difficult to weaken my grip? I have discovered lately that I am closed at the top and coming in closed de-lofting the club. Partly due to swinging too flat.

Using the best grip and buildup profile for you will make everything you want to do easier.

I went to a golf academy (name withheld due to contractual negotiations), and they re-gripped my clubs with 1 wrap under the LH and 5 staggered wraps under the RH - virtually no taper.

Felt good. Been using a similar style ever since.

I fit for either std +3 wraps or mid-size based on clubmakers and oem fitting charts. I'm definitely someone who fits more of what you are doing. I really liked moving from std to mid, but now after a few seasons of playing mid Im finding my right hand/wrist is not as comfortable and fatigues much quicker. Also occasionally struggle with blisters on right where before with std would get them both hands. BTW no glove.

I'm thinking more wrap(s) will get my fingers more around the grip and less squeezing/pinching which causes the blisters/fatigue.

It's all about preference.

Nailed it.
