I hit my 6-year-old R7 better than the new stuff?

+100 to Fourmyle of Ceres! Not pushing a product. Friend plays Rapture V2. Another plays Titleist 905R. Still another plays Ping G10. All three will whip your behind! All the cliches apply- if it ain't broke... I played a G15 then went to G20. Love it., but I could play the G20 for another 10 years and be very happy. I remember reading a GD article by Paul Azinger years ago. He said, 'When you find the right driver, putter and sand wedge sleep with them and don't let anyone talk you out of them'. OEMs make great products. They are, however, in business to make money-ours. Ho or not when you find it for gosh sake hold onto it. As the pro at my club often says, " If more people got fitted properly with the right shafts, and took lessons, and buried their ego, all I'd sell is balls, shirts and sweaters".

Hmmmmmm, Now I'm wondering what it would be like to put a Miyazaki Kusala Blue in my old R7 425 with an R11 white refinish? I always thought the R7 was as long as any of the newer clubs, but switched to an R11 due to it being more consistent and straighter. Maybe I just needed to change the shaft.

This could make for an interesting winter project.

I've played the 425 for years now and and I love that club! The only complaint I have with this club is the closed face...I haven't tried the TP version but I bet with the open face it would be perfect. I put the 425 back in the bag when my superfast long hosel was being built. I can bomb the superfast tp but the 425 still puts up a good fight. I almost like the smaller 425cc head..tough one

Interesting comments. I knew I wasn't alone in the "old driver" department. I still play my old R7 Quad driver and I play with 2 friends who still game their R5 driver! I've went through an R11, R11s, and an R9 Super-Tri and still find my R7 Quad is by far better.

I'm still gaming an R5...

Guy I got paired with last night was playing an R11s and asked if I wanted to try it out. I think I may be uprgrading, though not a fan of the white so I'll be hitting some other stuff before I pull the trigger.

Somewhere out there is the one driver in the all the world that you will hit better than any other driver. If you happen to have stumbled across it several years ago, then even if you play golf the rest of your life you'll never find one you hit better. Because it's the one that's best for you.

It isn't like there have been any genuinely breakthrough innovations in the basic operation of a driver in the past few years.

Landed on a r7 Superquad about a year ago and have done my best to find something in the "newer" category to replace it, to no avail. It's got the shaft that works best for me and I know that if it's not performing, it's because of the way I'm swinging it. Just traded a buddy a set of backup irons for his G15 with a whiteboard after hearing about how great the G15 was (and figuring a whiteboard only made it that much better). So long G15 - sticking with my r7. To me it's just a classic shape, sound and feel.

Just had this convo with a buddy of mine last night.

Him: so you think I should upgrade my R7
Me: why?
Him: I love your R11, you hit it so well
Me: but you are always within 5 yards of me, and usually straighter, and when you catch it, you bomb it past me.
Him: hmmm, I guess you are right.
Me: you need to keep your putter too, I like how you had 4 3 putts the other day, made me $20
Him: eff you.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
