I need to keep my golf set simple. So far this whats in my bag for 2012:

Driver: Titleist 90R - 230 yards

3 Wood: Taylormade RBZ - 220 yards

5 wood : Taylormade Burner - 190 yards

5 iron: Titleist 775CB - 165 yards

6 iron: Titleist 775CB - 150 yards

7 iron: Titleist 775CB - 145 yards

8 iron: Titleist 775CB - 130 yards

9 iron: Titleist 775CB - 120 yards

PW: Titleist 775CB - 110 yards

LW: Cobra FP 60 degree - 60 yards

When I need to make a 80 yards shot, I make 3/4 swing using my PW.

Do you think I need a 3 or 4 iron for my set?

No way could I play that gap between 5i and 5w, too many par 3s I play fall right into that distance.

Everything looks great except for two gaps at 80 and 180 yards. You sound comfortable with the 80 yard shot but I think a solid 175-180 yard club would help you. You should be able to hit it high and stop quickly on the green. If you can do that with a 4i than great, but you should check out hybrids if you feel like you can't stop the 4i.

I play a 19* hybrid between my 18.5* 5 wood and 5 iron. Serves me quite well.

Surprised no one asked you about your game yet. More importantly, would you even USE such a club if it was in your bag?

In your opinion, what is the stronger part of your game...5iron and above or PW and under? My bag is made up to help ME score. I could care less about gaps in my set that aren't my strong suit anyway.

Currently my bag is set-up as follows:

D - 240+ yds
3W - 220+ yds

4h - 195 yds
5h - 185 yds
6i - 165 yds
7i - 155 yds
8i - 145 yds
9i - 135 yds

PW - 125 yds
GW - 52* - 110yds
SW - 56* - 100 yds
LW - 60* - 90 yds
LW - 64* - 80 yds

I play off a 13hc and like most casual golfers I struggle with my long game. I don't carry a 5 wood, or a 3/4 iron or 3 hybrid because they wouldn't help me score. I can not reliably put balls on the green from 200+ yds away. MY game is built on expecting to get home in 3, from 150yds and in EVERY TIME. So my bag is set-up that way. Hell, I've even thought about going to a 52* - 58* - 64* wedge set-up to lighten up the bag a little for my walking days.

My advice is NOT to put clubs in the bag just because someone says you need that particular club. I think of my golf bag like my tool bag. Everthing in it should serve a purpose. If not, why bother?

PW and under is my stronger game. That's why a lob wedge is way more important than having a SW.

No, I bet your score will not change by adding a 3 or 4 iron. I recommend getting a sand wedge instead of a lob wedge to keep it simple. You can get more creative with a sand wedge vs a 60*.

Your distances are about the same as mine. Do you play a sand wedge? I think you need something for that gap, either a 21* hybrid or a 7 wood, whichever you prefer and hit better.

If you have standard 3 and 5 woods, there is NO WAY your have a 30 yard gap in between them. Maybe you think you do, but I can assure you that you do not unless one of them is custom length or loft. Buy yes I think the gap between 5 wood and even 4 iron is too big. You sound do something more like D, 3W, 19H, 4-PW, 52, 56, 60. You are making the game WAY to hard on yourself with only 11 clubs

6 and 7 gap is bad, only 5 yards? Perhaps strengthen the 6i to get an extra 5.

Yes, get a 4i or 4h.

At least get another wedge, 100 yard wedge.

You could even go 4w and get rid of 3w and 5w.

Play some rounds like that and decide if you want to go one more wedge or one more long club.

not nearly enough people telling him to get a WEDGE not a long iron or hybrid

pw-60 is just weird.. a 15 degree gap in clubs there should be addressed before you start fussing about what club you're going to hit when you're 175 out

if you can hit your PW partial to reduce it's distance, take that skill and apply it to your 5w....

and get a wedge!
