Dove Valley Ranch in poor shape

My father and I went to play Dove Valley Ranch today and were dissappointed. We both like the layout how the front is pretty wide open and the back side is more target golf. There were large sections of fairway where the grass was solid brown. I hit a poor drive that should have gone about 260 but ran through the fairway at about 320. Even the rough was tighter then most fairways I have seen. The greens were quite quick and nice to putt on, but again, with them being so dry I was having 8 iron approaches land on front edge and run off the back. We were placed behind a foursome for a 10:40 tee time who had started on the backside for some reason and took 2:30 to play the front. After they left we played the backside in 1:05.

 

I am hoping the only reason it was so dry is, like most courses have already done, to kill off the rye and let the bermuda start to catch. All I know is we never saw a ranger or beverage cart and they need to water the crap out of that course.

PS: I had a tough time holding the greens and couldn't hole anything outside of 8 feet. shot a 41-40-81

I assume you are talking about Dove Valley Ranch in Cave Creek, AZ?

I live close to that course and it is never in good shape in the summer. They don't water it enough. Too bad to because it is a nice layout.

BTW, there is a thread here titled "Current Phoenix course conditions" or something like that. You should post this in there as more peeps might see it.
