Vegas golf advice

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, going to be in Vegas in a couple of weeks time for a week so looking for some local advice. I won't be able to do much golf, but reckon I can sort the wife out with a nice spa or something one day which would let me get a game in.

What courses are worth playing? What sort of price ranges, and importantly are they even playable in July in the middle of the desert with my pasty Scottish skin?? Im guessing its a dawn patrol round to make the heat bearable? Its got to be a decent enough course thats going to let me hire clubs, as Im not bringing mine 5000 miles for one game of golf. Maybe if lady lucks in at the casino's I can go for a top of the range course. I play off 6 so I can get myself around most set ups.

The other thing I was interested in was finding somewhere I could get a proper putting fit session, maybe accompanied by a lesson. My putting is the very definition of streaky. When its on, it can be on for 3-4 weeks, and then I lose it and lose all confidence. Putting fitting isn't very big in the UK yet, from what I've read its much higher profile in the states.

Cheers.

Hey brother,

Just returned from a Vegas mancation with the boys, and I can suggest a couple of tracks you'd enjoy. Not necessarily in any order except for the first one, which was our best experience.

Cascata
TPC Las Vegas (Canyons)
Badlands
Rio Secco

There are a few, and they're not bank-breakers either. Summer in the desert should lower rates, I would think.

Have a good trip, and perhaps let us know how you made out.

Thanks mate, I'll have a look into those courses later today. I was reading about Badlands yesterday, looked pretty good.

What I really want is a proper example of desert golf, patches of green fairways, tees and greens all surrounded by harsh desert. Never played that style before so it would be something different.

Hey,
If you don't mind a little more than an hours drive, you could check out Wolf Creek up in Mesquite. Now that one will leave a mark on ya!! Especially if the wind blows. EXTREME golf.

Happy to be of service.

Haven't played a whole lot in Vegas, but I have got in several rounds at The Chase outside of Vegas. Its a little drive, but is such a phenomenal course. You'd have to check out the conditions of it as I haven't been there in over a year.

Hi there, Vegas was brilliant, loved it over there. Sadly no golf for me, the day i got there, a week past Tuesday, you guys had weather warnings for a couple of days with 115degree temps. The TV said it was your hottest day in 6years. I decided not to bother attempting to play in those conditions. Saying that, the 4days afterwards it cooled down to closer to 100 with the odd spit of rain.

To be honest, i got used to the heat pretty quick so would have been fine.

I went to one of the golf stores, on Dean Martin drive i think and got fitted up by their Taylor Made guy, for an R11S. His trackman had me hitting a 263 carry, with another 35yards run out. Its been pissing down in the UK since ive been back so havent hit a 300 yarder yet, but im hopeful its in the locker!

Loved the town, lived the holiday, definatley planning on going back and next time, i'll be trying to take in wolf creek!

minus the 3 weeks in april and 3 weeks in september for airation (give or take a week) the course is flawless, best course conditions in vegas.

Glad you agree! I was in a national scramble tournament where we advanced, quarter finals and semi finals were there, the final match between two foursomes got paired with John Daly and Fred Funk. We missed it by one! The course is just so much fun.... I hope to get back there on the next bachelor party I go on to Vegas!
