Ping Goes Adjustable! First Looks new Anser Driver & wedge

Did TM's patent on the R9 technology expire, or are they licensing the old 1* sleeve stuff to Ping?

I don't see how this fitting process would be any different than their G20/I20 drivers. Being able to go up or down a 1/2 degree seems pointless. I'm sure the driver will be great, perhaps a mix of of the G20 and I20? But in terms of adjustability, this is a swing and a miss by PING.

[/quote] However ping drivers are longer and more forgiving than titliest drivers so as long as u get the loft right it might be great. Sure fit is waaaaaaay better I hope ping will find away to adjust face angle without change of loft

not sure i like that loft/face angle can't be changed independently, no one 2nd thought I'm am sure I don't like it... If I wast to hit it a little higher I have to get a closed face, or playing a windy links course and i want to keep it low i have to get a open face??? Weak effort at 1st glance IMO

But if you need to adjust it more than that 1/2 degree you just got the wrong head and should switch to the higher or lower loft

Every single adjustable driver works this way, including TM and Titleist. TM counter to it is ASP, but in order to change loft you have to change face angle. And for those complaining about the half degree incriments it makes sence with ping's philosophy. They take the set t and forget it approach. So if you need a 9 degree you deloft the 9.5 or weaken the 8.5. If you want a 9.5 you get the 9.5. This way the clubs don't overlap and ping has more fitting options.

The wedges look VERY similar to the Tour-S, just with the new "Gorge" grooves. Unless these Anser wedges are forged or cast from different steel?

I'll wait until I see some testing with regular grooves vs. "Gorge" grooves. Will there really be a difference?

Nice looking gear. But the Ping driver doesn't have moveable weights to change ball flight from draw to neutral to fade, like the RAZR Fit and R11 drivers. That will probably be Ping's next step.

But alas, the last big OEM went to an adjustable driver too. Any word on price for the driver?

The adjustability isn't going to be a factor for me personally. I like the look of the driver a lot though an if it's as lOng as the I20 and forgiving as the G20 then that's enough for me.

I used to play the 910 and used the A1 setting, I just liked the look and preformance.

These always make me chuckle. Everyone comes up with their version of what someone has already done. R&D is cool and all, but at the end of the day, they're all trying to outdo each other to take your hard earned dollar. That's the way it works folks! TM, then Titleist, then Cally, now Ping. And I'm sure there are others I forgot about. It is what it is.

Well, I'll be OK as long as my non-adjustable i-Series drivers are not messed with, also, PING, it appears you made that wedge a couple years ago, I have them in my bag.

I hope they don't ruin the S-Series irons too..

Because it has appeased the hivemind asking for an adjustable from PING. Don't tell that to all the i20 and G20 owners though, they're too busy hitting fairways and not changing loft and face angle on the range
