Poll: Blade or Mallet putter?

Recommended Posts

I own multiple putters of both, of course.

My gamer is my ping redwood anser. Nothing can kick it out of the bag.

Are you a blade or mallet guy? What make/model do you use?

I've always used anser- or heel-toe-weighted designs, whatever you want to call them. I guess since we're technical here, a 'blade' putter can mean 2 different things. I think of an 8802-looking design when someone says 'blade putter.'

I really want to try a mallet style though because my putting surely insults the Gods.

Well, I putted pretty well yesterday with the Nike Method 001 so I'll be a blade guy for a while. 14 putts for 9 isn't bad, I'll take that any day. What is bothering me is that I had a 15footer for birdie on the toughest par four on the course and 3 putted. hit the damn thing 8ft past and then left it 1 ball short, dead center.

I just use a rubber blade putter that I took from some kid at the local mini golf putt putt place. Working just fine.

Realistically have used both. Previous putter currently on restriction is a SC Newport Mid Slant. Love the way it sets up but felt a tad too light.

Currently using a Redeood Piper. Puts a real nice roll on the ball.

PING putting app suggest I use a different putter with toe hand due to strong arc rather than the face balanced Piper. Not sure how accurate that is though

Pretty much a blade. Ping APP put me in an Anser 1, but I think I putt better with shorter flow neck designs.
Currently using a Miz Betti BC4 w/ a pistolero grip.
I have putted well with 8802 style blades and plumber neck anser style putters as well.
Might give a newport a try, but for some reason the flow neck ( NP 1.5, Santa Fe, etc.) is very pleasing to my eye.

I have played both but get better results with a mallet. I fitted into iPings straight arc so I game the Ping Nome.

Hello

I used during the last 2 years a redwood anser which was perfect , and i thought i was definitively a blade player , but now i have a new one , an amazing and magic miura KM007, so i can say i'm a mallet now

Ping Craz-E straight. Love the nome though. It calls me. especially after seeing Deerslayers sons all black version. SICK!

Stroke is much more repeatable with a high MOI mallet because the consequences of not hitting it dead center aren't as harsh so i can worry about the speed and where i want to hit it rather than getting all tense worrying about contact point. Especially fantastic on long putts.

Putted with what seemed like the original Anser a few weeks ago, my first go at a blade putter in a long time. But I think I might be making a switch back to a smaller head - it really gave me the feeling of actually rolling the ball. Have some experimenting to do........

I had a snake eye bnlade for a while, but I felt it was a blade styule mallet putter. although I've never played a mallet putter, I expect them to be heavy, which this snake eye was. too heavy, it was hard to get a hyandle on distance control. I guess you can;t hjust change 25 years of instinct in one ot two seasons. My three putt greens have dropped since I got an older style blade putter. the experience did smooth out my stroke a bit, I think...

What is good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander. Or my putter might not work for you.
This weekend (Saturday) I fired my putter. Decided my grand experiment was a failure.
Went to the local box store and spent over an hour trying the various offerings. I went in the store with an open mind. Liked the Nike Method 08 but was put off by the price. Regardless I kept going back to the same putter. Pulled the trigger on the SeeMore Si5 - Mallet nickle finish which is a 360g putter.
On Sunday (second day of the tournament) I had the best putting round of the year.
I tried the "Heavy Putter" but simply did not like the feel.
If you like the feel go for it.
