Premium ball performance on a budget?

Hello,

I just played one of the best rounds of golf I've had in a while last Saturday. I was using a ProV1 (normally I play a Srixon Trispeed Tour) and I was getting great results. My approach shots were sticking on the green (had a couple back up a bit on par 3's) and my short game around the green wasn't rolling out as much. All in all I think I cut 3 strokes off my round. So, now I've been thinking of making the switch to a more spinny urethane premium ball, however, I can't afford the price tag. Even the used ones seem a bit pricey. For a little background, I actually feel like I splurged a little on the Srixon Trispeed Tours at 2 dozen for $35. Are there any decent premium performing balls out there that are available for $20 or less a dozen?

Thanks in advance

The Wilson FG Tour is a fantastic ball. There have been several threads recently on this site that generally rave about it. You can get cosmetic blems from ebay for $13 and a flat shipping rate no matter how many dozen you order. I got 6 dozen and only found a blemish on 2 balls. The rest looked perfect. This is a perfectly legitimate tour-level ball that can compete with the ProV / Z Star / Penta...a bit on the soft side.

Just received 2 doz Taylormade TP Red LDP balls @$9.99 doz from Knetgolf.com. They are refinished balls that look (and play) like new. They have urethane covers. Some people think this is the best ball TM ever made. Try them, you won't regret it.

The FG Tours mentioned above are new. They're urethane. They're good. And they're $12.99 / dozen. If you search this site for FG Tour Blems, you'll find that virtually everyone loved their blems and could hardly ever even find a cosmetic flaw. This is by far the best deal on a tour-level ball in the last few months.

John Daly used to have some golf balls of his own brand.. that were awesome they were soft but durable. Just had his little smiley face lion thing on them and like John Daly with a number on the other side.. I picked up a few dozen of them from like a target or walmart price drop. Wonder what happened to those.. can't find them any more :/

look out for the closeouts on premium golf balls. if you are diligent, you can find deals for $25/dz or less sometimes.

I played the Pro V1 for a decade and switched to two (Golf WRX recommended) balls this year.

Bridgestone E6 is the straightest ball I've ever hit. Durable and long too. You will suffer around the greens though...

Top Flite Gamer V2 is a phenomenal all around ball for the price. Good spin, distance and shot making ability. Its not that durable though. Many golfers cannot get over the "Top Flite" name either.

I swear if it was any other name, you could sell it for twice as much. Both are excellent "budget" golf balls though.

EDIT: I didnt read the urethane part. E6 does not fit what you are looking for, LOL. Gamer is a legit option though.

Consistently the Gamer V2 and Wilson FG Tour get the most praise in these low cost high performance ball threads. Ive never played the FG Tour but the Gamer V2 is my ball. I think one point that goes unmentioned about the V2 is its durability. For me, they hold up extremely well and I can get a couple rounds out of one before it goes to the shag bag. Thats another thing about the V2..at that price you can fill up your shag bag with them and not break the bank. I use my shag balls for chipping practice so im getting the feel and performance of the ball I actually play.

The only blemish I saw on my FG Tour blems was a slightly crooked label.

Yeah, I can live with that. LOL

Any good non-brand name premium balls with a urethane cover for around $20-$25? I kind of prefer new balls to used ones. Just a mental preference.

Check out the Hex Chrome for a bit more. Very good ball for the money.

Wilson FG Tour, you can buy the blems for 14.99/dz. at budgetgolf last I looked.

I currently play the Gamer V2, but they are being less available now that top flite has been sold. I think now that RBG is charging a mint for the last ones they have we might have a hard time finding them.

I will have to check out the FG Tour, I am curious if Dicks is going to sell the Maxfli U2 or U3 on clearance or blowout anytime soon, urethane cover on a 2 piece ball doesn't sound too bad.
