Bullseye putter - Can I use both sides

I have a Titleist bullseye putter that I currently use. I am a left handed player and putt left handed. Recently I was practicing on the putting green and noticed that I was much more consistant from 5 foot when I putted right handed. Would I be breaking any rules if I putted from long range left handed and finished out right handed?

Appendix II 4 b [iii] d. The clubhead must have only one striking face, except that a putter may have two such faces if their characteristics are the same, and they are opposite each other.

i would say that the bullseye fits that description and as such can be used with whichever face you feel suitable to your desired stroke.

Relax, even if you forget your Bullseye one day and pick up a mallet putter before your round from the pro shop, you can still use it both ways (as long as you have the guts):

That my friend is an amazing concept.........like horseman I too had to look up the reference to ole Notah.... you learn something everyday!

It was ideal for Begay (a multiple tour winner), who had his career shortened by a bad back, not by his putting. No reason it couldn't be ideal for someone else.

Well, I've played a few rounds using the putter the 'wrong' way round and maybe it is a mental thing but I am much happier from close range putting right handed. I still putted left handed from long range as I found my pace was easier to control. Maybe its mechanical by way of having my left hand under (Lefty grip) and finding it easier to keep the putter head square through the putt. Anyway, I'm certainly not disappointed and I'll keep on looking like a weirdo on the greens as long as it is working!!!

I am perplexed as to why your putting is so bad lefty within 5 feet that you'd think of changing hands.

I've heard more than once on Golf Channel that a left to right putt is harder for a left hander than a right hander. Or maybe it's the opposite. (I try hard not to pay attention to that claim since I don't need any addtional bad thoughts in my head when I set up over a ten foot down hiller.)

But maybe for ambidextrous people (like Notah) the switch works out well for them. I've got enough trouble standing on just one side of the ball.

I remember wayyyyyy back in a golf digest mag, Tom Watson blurbed about toeing it out of the rough. And that he specifically asked the usga about it. . It works..so long as your lie angle isn't too flat on the putter.

The prevailing theory (so I've heard) is that the "slicing" putt is the hardest...so left to right for a right hander...opposite for a left hander...and exponentially worse if it's downhill...

Have you tried. with the righty grip but left handed yet? They were talking about how 50% of the US women amateur field was putting cross handed like that.. there may be something to those numbers

I putt with left eye closed or with a leftie putter, within 6-8 feet, because my left eye peripheral visual is all messed up. It works!

I 'caught' the yips a few years ago. After trying all sorts of 'cures' I found that putting left handed did the trick. I still putt right handed (yip free) for anything over about 15'.

At least I'm not the only one that did that.  Although I've gone back to putting RH, I still backhand a lot of short ones into the hole.

 

I did, in years gone by, use a Bullseye putter and putt both LH and RH depending on how I felt at a certain distance or line.

The latter. Our pro gave me an old Titleist brass headed two faced putter.

Those sorts of putters were common at the Miniature golf courses i went to as a boy. Easily found today too.

 

Will only mention this:  any club, any time, any place.  As long as you use the clubhead and no pushing the ball.  Played with a oldster who putted with his driver.  He was as good with that as with his putter.

 

And the 'yips'.  Watched one video of golf teacher Julian Mellor claim that his 30 yr putting yips were cured using the 'saw putting grip'. If i recall, that is also used by Sergio G where the right hand is placed on the putter handle only resting on the crux between the thumb and forefinger.  The other fingers point down straight down the shaft; imagine teeth on a buck saw.  Yeah, i tried it a bit and takes a bit but the right hand is neutralized, so may indeed help.

It’s not uncommon to have one stroke for shorter putts and another stroke for longer putts. Lydia Ko switch from cross hand to conventional depending whether it was short or long

When I was young there was this amateur national champion at my course that had a Bullseye putter to hit it both ways.  Since he was ambidextrous he had a way out of almost every situtation.  The guy played scratch golf well into his 60's.
