AP2 712 No Serials...

Hi all,

 

I have recently purchased a set (4-PW) of AP2 712,s. Although I did not purchase them from an official outlet they did come from a reputable trader (http://www.affordablegolf.co.uk).

 

Now, whilst I did do my due dilligence whilst researching about the many fakes that are out there, I am still a touch concerned as my 6 iron has no serial number etched on it, it does however have the Titleist Authentication hologram on the shaft, (DG S300).

 

The clubs themselves I'm 99% sure are genuine, the quality of the actual club heads are exactly the same as I've seen in person and from official pictures. Also there is also a barcoded sticker on the 6 iron grip, which is still wrapped, with Acushnet Europe Ltd's St Ives HQ address on. I would be suprised if a counterfeiter would go to such lengths to disguise a fake!! I may of course be completely wrong and have made a fairly expensive mistake!!

 

Is there any reason why the 6 iron would not have the serial number on the hosel?

I have a tour issued combo set of 710cb/mb and none of the clubs have serials, that may possibly be the case with yours as well.

The only info I could find on the web regarding this was related to tour issue clubs, but what does that actually mean!? :-)

Thanks Miknow, very interesting read there. So potentially I got a bit of a bargain. I don't suppose theres any way of telling for sure though, without any serials to reference.

Looks pretty good to me and I have an authentic set of 712 AP2s.

Titleist UK do not etch serials onto the clubs anymore. On the 710 line and models prior, a serial number was stamped on the ferrule of the 6 iron (unless it was a custom order). For example on the 710 line of Titleist irons a set with standard specifications would have a 4 digit serial on the six iron ferrule only. A custom set (one with non-stock shafts/grips or custom loft/lie) had a 6 digit serial stamped onto the ferrule of every club.

The serial numbers on the 712 model line is found on the hologram sticker on the shaft of the 6 iron. This sticker should have a serial on it towards the bottom of the sticker (usually starts with an 'A' followed by a series of numbers in the UK).

Give Titleist a call on 01480 301114 - anyone in the sales or custom department will be able to confirm your set. You will be able to quote your serial number found on the hologram sticker and they will be able to look it up and tell you what set you should have in your hands (ie - set makeup, shaft make/flex, grip make and loft/lie), allowing you to cross check and confirm their authenticity.

European Tour issued Titleist clubs will not have a serial number at all or occasionally have a 'T' serial (Txxxxxx) on Drivers/Fairways/Hybrids.

Excellent news there gjjtr5, that is exactly the info I was looking for. I will give Titleist a bell in the week to confirm the makeup of my set. At least mt mind is put at rest and I should be able to swing with ease!! ;-)
