PICS! TaylorMade Releases "RocketBladez" Irons

Recommended Posts
I too don't understand how someone could say they're buying them or otherwise fall for the marketing skeem and haven't even hit them yet. The guys preordering 913's, any TM, or other prereleased club just amaze me on how good they really must be at playing this game without even swinging the club before buying it. Either that or they have more money than sense.
I have to agree. A set of clubs is a big investment. These might be fantastic clubs, or not. Either way I'd want to hit them before I purchase them.

ps: you still have to put a good swing on them. :-)

Of course they are going to be longer when you drop the lofts. An 18 degree 3 iron is ridiculous.
Any clue on the lofts of these irons? Will the PW be 46*?
The pw is 45. Ridiculous! Of course they are longer. I love the 18 degree 3 iron. in 2014 the PW will be 42 and will be marketed to be a club longer than the previous model.

Reading the posts from TM haters is absolutely commical. Pure enjoyment...
I'm no TM hater as I bag one of their 4W, but I would question someone choosing these clubs the day of the press release based simply on hype and the fact they're made by TaylorMade. I find that much more comical.

And I still think they're hideous looking.

The Cobra S2 forged released in 2010 already had a 43 degree pitching wedge. In some instances the lofts have to be strengthened to keep the clubs performing.

I won't lie.. I chuckled when I saw the PR on these... Seems they ran out of catchy names.

I'm sure they aren't bad irons, but until people realize that most of the crap that comes out is just recycled ideas with a new colored badge, they'll continue the cycle of junk.

These irons are ugly. I'll argue that ugly can be, if it works.. But these aren't going to make you a single digit or better because your playing "bladez" now.

Thank you.

The haters come out because it's so easy to do in situations like these. These aren't attractive irons in most players eyes. There are bells and whistles and glitter and sequins, slots and gimmicks.

TMAG has designed performing clubs, and I've owned some fantastic TMAG clubs over the years. But you don't get the level of hate against Mizuno. Why? Because they aren't throwing 200 patents against the wall and seeing which sticks.

Like FatC1ty says, I'm sure you will play good golf with these irons but they won't make you a more skilled player, or even a better shotmaker. Hitting a smooth 6 iron 225 isn't the idea in the game I play.

Don't get me wrong - they'll sell a million sets. But the sheer volume of anti-TMAG sentiment by more than a dozen persons in a single thread should speak volumes.

Yikes, those are some ugly irons. I can see the bubble bursting for Taylormade this year, and Callaway having a strong one.

+1!!!!

TM will still sell millions of these but I can't see many golf purists buying these. Really fugly......just when I thought they couldn't make last years RBZ irons any uglier. I'm not a hater either.....own lots of TM gear.

In golf manufacturing you don't see this level of polarity against any other company.

Look nice...BUT I'm not sure how cutting a little slot in the bottom of the sole can make the face 'rebound' or 'flex' so much that you would get noticable gains in distance. Oh wait TM jacked up the lofts AGAIN! Once again they're not compairing apples to apples and these apples are $100 more than the RKB's. Just another gimmick. Sorry TM. I'll try them anyway when a demo day comes my way.

At least they innovate and try to break the mold so to speak. Unlike say Mizuno who just grain flow forge a different cavity shape with different number ever year or so and charge premium prices while their fans just can't get enough of the "buttery feel."

I am shocked that the lofts of the nontour irons lofts are so strong. I get the distance part, but for the demographic that would play that club, you would think that the increased loft combined with the lightweight shafts would increase height thus longer shots.

These actually look pretty good. I thought the rocketballz looked awful.

The tech seems pretty self explanatory. Low shots will have a bit of spring from the slot and that will help them get airborne. Flush shots will not be affected. Thats why the slot only cuts through the bottom of the face.

And as for marketing, I dont see this is any different than a company telling you how 600 year old samurais are hand forging their irons, and making you think some guy actually gave a crap about the iron when he touched it and the end of the assembly line.

Its all marketing. Some market distance, some market feel, some market forgiveness, and some are just too stupid or broke to market.

I agree, it's completely different in rooting for or disliking a sports team over preferring a specific golf company. As a Yankees fan, I hate the Red Sox because they play against the Yankees. In golf, I play against myself, not the clubs other people choose to play.

Bad comparison, Caesar.

But that's really not a good analogy. People hate the Yankees because they're always winning and beating other people's home-teams. If the Yankees repeatedly beat your team in the playoffs you're gonna really hate them! The Brewers hardly ever win anything, that's why people don't hate them.

Golf manufacturers on the other hand are not competing head-to-head. When you get beat in a tournament by someone playing TM clubs you don't blame the clubs.

Unless TM actually screwed the player personally, I don't see how they could hate it so much.

A better analogy would be Apple vs. PC

I find it ironic how Mr. King thinks this technology is so revolutionary. Wilson Golf had an iron and wood in the 80's called the "Reflex". There was a slot in the bottom of the club so the face would flex more at impact. It worked well except Wilson had a problem with the iron faces cracking. I also believe the USGA had an issue with the amount of flex in the face. There may be some validity to their claims, but lets face it, most of it is marketing...and it has worked!

I don't see what all the fuss is about the lofts...they are basically the same lofts that TM has had since the Burner '09 line of irons...sure they are stronger than most other OEMS but they have essentially remained unchanged through the various GI irons released by TMAG of late
Exactly. There are a lot of uniformed in here. One can readily find similar lofted sets from many other manufacturers too.
