Phoenix Course Recommendations - Sat Nov 3rd

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I will be in Phoenix the weekend, and wanted to play 36 holes on Saturday.

Golf now seems to show A TON of courses in Phoenix, and I was looking for some recommendations

http://www.golfnow.com/phoenix

I am looking to stay under $70 per round. Also, I will have a rental, and I am willing to travel up to 1.5 hours to play. Obviously I would like the 2 courses to be as close together as possible. I will be staying 1.5 miles from PING HQ, so about here....

36 in one day with $70/rd....

I'd consider Vistal, Legacy and Raven South Mountain....all close together...pick any two. Kind of similar layouts though.

Raven Verrado and Golf Club of Estrella could make a good day too, definitely highlighting more "desert golf."

Another good combo would be Quintero ($90 I see on their site) followed by Trilogy Vistancia ($90ish on their site too). I think you could get both in if timed right. Quintero is must play to anyone who can get out there while in AZ.

I would consider Sunridge and Vista Verde. They are both around your $ range and close enough to each other.

Quintero and Los Caballeros in Wickenburg would be a good combo. I just played Los Cab(2 weeks ago) and it was in excellent shape. Greens were slow as expected but nice. Should be real good now..

A little less thrilling combo would be Corte Bella and Trilogy at Vistancia.

Estrella and Verrado are excellent choices! Verrado is perfect now. Not sure about Estrella but usually is good.

Another question,

If I decided to just pay 1 round, and pay up to $130, where should I play? Is Dove Mountain worth it? They have tee times for $90.

Isn't Dove Mountain in Tucson though?

Crap. You are right. 2 hours away from where I will be staying. Scratch that then.

Southern Dunes is a fun track, just make sure they're several weeks out of overseed if possible.

for a higher price course, Id consider We-Ko-Pa where they have two courses. I havent played both courses, but I believe most that have would prefer Cholla out there.

As far as "Mickelson's new track" ...if you mean McDowell Mountain Ranch, part of the MClub, its only a so so course. Nothing spectacular by any means.

A fun day with two rounds could also be TPC Champions course (the old desert course) in the morning for about $80 or so, followed by a 2pm TPC Stadium course for under $100.00. The Stadium course is nothing phenomonal, but it is fun to play and then watch the Waste Management in a couple months and know you played it, specifically #16. You can literally walk from one course to the other, having lunch in between the rounds right on site.

Golf club of Estrella usually offers all you can play plus a dozen pro v's for $99, not sure if its I'm effect yet.

Southern dunes and the duke are about 10 minutes apart, I'd play the duke in the morning then southern dunes for a lower rate, just check the overseed dates.

Vistal and will be $39 on weekends and its in good shape, Papago is also close by and should be ok.

With your 2 hr drive, I'd also suggest driving up to Prescott and playing antelope hills, we were there oct 20th and both courses are in great shape, played 36 for $50 and each round took less than 4 hrs as a 4some

Hate to break it to you golfnhack, it IS overseed season here in the valley. The vast majority of courses are only out of OS by 2 weeks with the rest last week and this week.

Prospector at superstition mountain has been out since the 5th. Mountain Brook out on the 10th.

Raven and Estrella will just be out...so not a good combo.

Troon North for a single course, been out of OS for almost a month.

Troon North is a great track!!!

Grayhawk's courses should be fine as well. Bent grass greens I believe. No overseeding?

Um. At $200 a pop for both, it's a little out of my price range.

I'll tell ya how I justify it. Ya never know when the opportunity will again present itself. Plus, if you financed the difference between your budget
and the upgrade, it's little more than 25 cents a day over a year. Make cents? Sure it does. Look, take a chance, you're mother did! :)

Hey guys.... so what am I missing here.

This list (for 2012) ranks Southern Dunes at #5. I can get a morning time for $69 and an afternoon time for $39. Do you guys just not like the course? It is ranked ahead of Grayhawk and TPC Stadium

Sorry, I've just not played it. Often times, rates this time of year are often dictated by course conditions. Nothing will spoil a great day of golf more than poor course conditions, like newly overseeded fairways and aerified greens.

Tpc stadium is nothing great at all, if it wasn't a tour stop there would be no reason to play it. If southern dunes was in Scottsdale instead of maricopa, it would be waaaaaaay more $$$.

It's my favorite course in the valley, I'd seriously play there, especially for $39, that's a steal. Even at &69 if its in good shape.

Alright guys... I booked a morning and an afternoon time. The afternoon time is 2PM. Will that be enough time to finish, assuming a 4:15 round?

Also... anyone up for joining me then? It's $39 to play ($42 including tax). I am a about a 0.2 index, but don't mind playing with anyone that can break 100.

I'm playing Friday already or I'd join ya.

2pm will be cutting it close, depends on the traffic ahead of you, but given its location, it might not be super packed.

If you have some higher caps playing that course, it might take you a while, but I honestly have never had an issue with slow play out there, they have a ranger that will keep things on pace, but I think thier pace is 4.5.

It has a great practice facility which is included in green fees, too.

2pm on the dot? or the 2:05 time? I would be up for joining you.
