His facility is amazing, and it appears that his greenskeeper is pretty talented as well.

You referring to his place in N.I? Thought he put it up for sale...

I'm sure he won't be hurting for a practice facility though...

That is right it is for sale.. Must be building an even better facility with his newly found 200 mill lol. I would never leave my house if I had a yard like that. Ever.

I dont get the switch. Yes, he will probably earn more sponsorship dollars, but who cares he doesn't need the money. This game is about winning. Why is he messing with a good thing?
The most ever won in a single season is something like 10-11 million. He's probably got 6-10 mill in endorsements now. Who wouldn't take that money combined guaranteed for the next 10 years? Look at the way a guy ranked in the mid 100s plays if he's toward the top nowadays; It isn't about winning. He's playing safe hoping for a top 10 and a pay check. Rory wants Tiger money, less than 1% of us wouldnt take that.
I couldn't disagree more. Winning Majors is what's important on the PGA Tour. Endorsement deals will come in droves the more he wins. An equipment change just for the money is stupid.
Maybe, but is that what's important to Rory? We know that's what Tiger wants, but Rory is not Tiger. I've never heard Rory say he wants to hold the record for most majors (he may have said it, I just don't actually remember it), nor have I ever heard him say what he really wants. Maybe all he's after is to be one heck of a golfer and provide a financial future for himself, and his next three generations. If that's his goal, then taking a $200M+ guaranteed contract is a pretty darn good way to go about it.

I don't know for a fact (as I don't know any annual PGA Professionals), but I would venture a guess there's a lot of these guys who are extremely happy banking 7-8 figures a year, playing a game they absolutely love, and can still go out to dinner in public without enforced protection. Heck, without even getting recognized. I'd take that over the spotlight like Tiger Woods has had to be in his entire life. His priorities are different than mine, and that's okay. Neither is right or wrong in my opinion, they're just different.

While no one on the tour is going to tell you that it's not nice to win, for a lot of those guys it's their job. There are other things they want to do (hunt or fish seem to be what come up most), and pro golf is just a way for them do to it.

Rory's already won enough that the deals are there in droves. If the rumored deal goes through he's secured his future and that of his children.

I tend to put McIlroy in the company of very talented guys that have shown they can play anything and do well - Woods, Mickelson, Els. The crash and burn scenarios seem to involve guys that were not given as much raw talent to begin with.

I think to his credit, Tigers the only player to mention that he wants to beat the Jack Nicklaus record. I don't think anyone apart from Tiger would even think of it (and that was drummed into him since he was a foetus), let alone mention it in a press conference!

Rory will be fine. With the exception to the fairway woods, Rors has gone straight to the newest titleist offering that have come out without much testing. I read that he tried the 712 mb's and the sm4 wedges early in the week of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (Late Oct 2011?). After a just few days on the range and course with them he put them in play that week and had a top finish. Rory doesn't seem picky with his equipment, and the only issue I can see, if any, is with the putter and the ball. Just my opinion of course. Also a lot will depend on how his contract is written.
