Anybody Gaming "Old" Clubs (Pre-2006)

With all of the money poured into advertising and product marketing these days, I am curious to know if there are any players out there who rely on "older" equipment to get the job done? For me, I'm having fun playing my vintage but refinished MP-14 irons. I'm about one club shorter with them but I hit them well, so why not??? LOL.

what were you hitting before? I know with my 14's i'm longer than anything else i've put up against them by about a full club.

Titleist 775·CBs, Adams CB1s, and Titleist AP1s. All sets are 4-GW but the lofts are similar to the old school 3-PW setups.

I still have a Titleist 970 15* in the bag. It's the forged blade 2 iron of 3 woods - keeps the flight down and feels like nothing else when struck properly.

All of my stuff except the putter and bag. I use Hogan Apex FTX, Hagen blades, Cleveland TA3, and soon MacGregor VIP 1025CM and 1025M. Why buy new when the market is flooded with quality older stuff that is perfectly good enough when properly fitted and shafted for the player. I could never have afforded to buy these sets new in the past, but now I've been having a blast working with a great club builder when I bring him a new set of older heads.

I'm playing Taylor Made Burner Oversize irons... the ORIGINAL ones... from 1995ish. I don't have problems with flyers, I like my distances and my distance gaps... my only problem is I replaced the PW with an old Cleveland 588 and have a 20 yard gap between my 9 iron and PW.

I'm also playing an Odyssey 2 ball putter from 12-3 years ago... it looks just like current 2 ball putters.

In September I put MaxFli Revolution Black dots in play. They were more forgiving than the TM TP MB/MC set I was playing. I probably only played half as much this year as I have in years past and my ball striking was really suffering. I really like how these set up. Longer heal to toe, minimal offset and they really do have a nice feel. Not saying their staying in the bag permanantly (I did just pick up a set of Wishon 575MMC's to try next year) but I will start next season with them.

THe original BB irons were as good as anything thru the 7 iron. The short irons were bulky. IM toying with putting KBS tour shafts in a few of them to test.

With the exception of my 3 wood (906f) everything in my bag is pre-2006.

I've looked (and keep looking) but so far, I haven't found anything that knocks them out of the bag (although if that 712U goes retail it's bye bye hybrid!)

i play blade irons from the 50's and old persimmon woods. everyone saying their 2006 clubs are vintage, lol.

It's really not significant. I just threw 2006 out as an arbitrary year.

Still have my Callaway Steelhead Plus 4+ wood in my bag. I can still hit the living daylights out of that club!

Let's see:

- Ping ISI irons get a whirl now and again.

- Zero Tolerance Crown Jewel 3 wood is always in the bag.

Ping ISI sand wedge (copper) is always in the bag and the Odyssey 2 ball putter as well.

- Callaway Big Bertha 5w and 3w, circa 2004.
- Titleist 975d Driver, circa 2001 (I have 2 of these 9.5* and 10.5*) for use when the S3 isn't working for me.

I don't play them out of any great love or reverence, just that they were cheap and they do the job.

I currently use a Cleveland 460 Launcher and 3 & 5 Callaway Steelhead Plus fairway woods. I've yet to find another fairway wood that I like better.

What did you replace the X-14 PS with? I'm still gaming them but it's probably the last year for those bad boys before headed to the back-up set.
