Just scored a Sun Mountain C-130 bag for $14.99 in excellent condition prob from the 2017/18 model designs

I gave myself a $50 budget to build a servicable set of golf clubs over the winter with the following rules:
-Must buy a complete iron set from the same brand

-Wedges and woods can be piecemeal

-Must include bag, balls, and accessories

-Can't do any trading in/trading up for "better" stuff

 

I came in at somewhere around $30 (plus or minus some change...I've got the exact total written down somewhere) for some MacGregor Irons, a TM knockoff driver, an Adams 3wood and 5 hybrid, a Spalding 1 iron (just for shiggles), a Ping putter, and a TM 360 pitching wedge.  Most clubs were a buck apiece, though a few were 2.  The bag itself was $3, and a dozen balls in an egg carton were another $2.

This is the best $8.40 I've spent in a while.  2-9 Staffs, 1966 model.   These will clean up well.   Beautiful leather grips.

Scored a 913 D2 7.5* with a Tour AD-BB 6s for $60, a Bettinardi Inovai 3.0 center-shaft for $70, an exotics CB4 w/Tour AD-DI 7x for $70, and my personal favorite find that I cant hit well to save my life, a Ping Rapture Driving iron for $50.  All from the local Play-it-again sports.

Also went to a Play it Again and found a Callaway Steelhead III 9 wood with stock Regular shaft. Paid $9.99 and flipped on eBay for $100+
7 and 9 woods going for crazy prices now if you can find a nice one in the wild

Dang! I know this was a long time ago but I this is why I keep thrifting, to find a blond ping zing driver in good shape. 

 

I haven't found it yet but I've snagged up multiple sets of hogan's in good shape in the process.

Daaaaaaamn, I was fitted for those at the local golf shop but couldn't reach a deal with the salesman.  $25 is a helluva deal!  Good find!

This is awesome.  I was just thinking yesterday, This great game’s soul is on the course.  Not in our wallet.  Players lose that fact and chase equipment, data and such.  When they should just go play like 2 kids dropped off after school.

I fell madly in love with that Spalding 1 iron.

 

I sold the rest of the set to a buddy in need, and am scouring the thrift stores for the $50 Challenge Round 2 this winter, adding a little bit of a twist:  All the clubs need to be from the same era (looking specifically at the mid-to-late 90s, but I'm really open to anything).

I have some old knight stuff that was the bees knees back then.  When I was being introduced to golf as a kid, it has this titanium insert that looks like a co2 cartridge imbedded in the driver and 3 wood.  Those are sweet looking old clubs.
