Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pro

Just found a set of these BH Apex Edge Pro irons lefty's 3-PW with a #4 flex on Ebay. Paid $200 (incl. shipping). They look like they are in REALLY good shape for a soft, forged 20+year set of irons. Didn't see any rust in the pics. Anyways, they should arrive either today or tomorrow and can't wait to take them for a test drive. I wanted a nice forgiving forged club with a thin topline ever since I gave up my Mizuno MP-54's. I'll be back to give you my thoughts on 'em....thx.

I've got a set of the Apex Edge Pros arriving on Tuesday. I've played Hogan Apex 99 blades for years and have always tried other irons but always ended up back with the Apex.

I have a set of Apex Plus as back ups which I play every now and again.

I've tried most of the Hogan irons from 94 onwards and have enjoyed most of them but 2 sets have stood out to me in a bad way.

2003 clamshell Apex blades.....these had to be the hardest and harshest Hogans I've ever hit. I'm a decent ball striker with crap putting stats which reflects my 4 handicap.

Man those clamshells were awful, in my experience anyway.

I tried a friend's Hogan Edge EX, the most recent GI irons from Hogan and wasn't impressed at all. Made a strange sound, especially in the 4 and 5 irons and generally just felt dead off the face to me.

My friend still has them and he struggles to get all the dirt and moisture out of the deep cavity and they have rust spots inside them now.

Back to the Apex Edge Pros, I couldn't pass up the AEP for the price and condition.

As I'm getting older, I'm looking for a little bit more forgiveness and these also have the apex 3 shafts in them whereas my other Hogan's have Apex 4.

I went extreme recently and was playing some Ping G Series irons and initially was getting on great with them but then started losing every iron shot left. Driver, driving iron, wedges etc were still all ok, just the Ping irons.

Put the 99 Apex back in and all was good again.

I kinda liked those Pings too as initially I found them very easy to hit and obviously longer with their strong lofts.

I'm hoping the AEP can give me that little bit more forgiveness than the Apex Pro and a lot more forgiveness than the Apex blades while still giving me the softness of a forged head.

As for the Ping G series irons, a playing partner claimed it was the offset making me miss left but I've got a set of Ping Zing 2 irons that I use in a weekly "old irons" match and I never, ever pull those or hook them left and they have huge offset so not sure what's going on with them.
