For those of you who I haven’t met my name is Peter Farner. I am one of the 13 TrackMan Master’s in the US and currently work as a Performance Fitting Specialist at Carl’s Golfland in Bloomfield Hills, MI. I previously worked as a Maxx Club Fitter at Miles of Golf until joining the Golfland team in February of 2102.

In light of some recent conversations here on GolfWRX, we at Carl’s Golfland would like to clear the air on some important topics as well as extend a special offer to all of those involved.

Carl’s Golfland has never used flighted golf balls on our range. The Launch Pad uses full flight Top Flite Tour Range balls as well as a variety of premium balls for club fitting that we keep separate from our general range in order to insure accuracy and consistency in all of our fittings. We use TrackMan III and IIIe systems with the latest version of TrackMan Performance Studio. We use OEM fitting equipment with no “universal” adaptors and consistently monitor and check our equipment to ensure the best possible results for our customers.

We are also very confident in our staff and their abilities. We can proudly say that we feel we are not only one of the best club fitting facilities in the Midwest but in the United States as well.

Because of this, Carl, owner of Carl’s Golfland would like to extend a special invitation to those of you on the following list:

Because of your involvement in these threads, be it good, bad, or indifferent, Carl invites you to visit that Launch Pad at Carl’s Golfland for a complimentary Performance Driver or Iron Fitting at no cost to you. We also encourage you to blog, write, and share your story, be it good or bad, with anyone you’d like.

I hope Greg gets a ton of credit for some of the positive reviews on the board, many of us went there after he was hired because he's a friend and a longtime poster here. He's also done a good job of letting us all know about how the launchpad works without sounding like a shill. This is a very generous offer, much appreciated.

I am coming up from Indy to do a fitting with Chris at Pure Impact. I already know what I want, so it will really be more of a fine tuning. I just had elbow surgery for degenerative tendonitis a month ago, so I can't swing the club for another month or so. I will let you all know how my experience goes, but it won't be until late March.

Wow...what an awesome offer. Very excited to take advantage of this. My intentions when starting this thread was to find a great fitter. I am a good player and really struggled with my irons last summer. Never actually being fit, I needed to take the plunge. I now have no excuse and looking forward to it.

Thanks again and I will make sure to report back my findings and experiences.

Well played sir. Any chance you guys are going to add this to the Plymouth store? I like the store. Hate the range.

Yea a big bummer for sure. I meet with the doctor this Friday to review the MRI and explore all options. This has been a long term issue and cortisone shots are becoming less helpful with the pain. He did mention no swinging a club for at least 6 weeks. More to come

I am looking forward to trying out Carl's Launch Pad for a future driver fitting. 12 out of the 14 clubs I have in my bag currently were fit by Chris at Pure Impact. That is the only time I have been fit for clubs, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. There were positives and negatives to the experience, much like anywhere else I'm sure. I think the biggest thing with PI is that they would benefit from an office/business manager. Chris does answer the phone a lot during the fitting, which didn't really annoy me that much, but I can understand how it would. Also, there were some things on my final order that got a little mixed up...I was supposed to have all matching red/white lamkin grips, but he ran out of red/white so he gripped my wedges with black/white lamkins. I didn't have a problem with it because he said when he got more red/white grips in he would send them to me. I never received them, but it wasn't a big deal to me. I could have called him to remind him, but I just didn't get around to it.

I really didn't have a problem hitting into the nets. I play enough to know what good contact and bad contact is, and I think the technology is mature enough to somewhat accurately predict ball flight to give you a good enough idea. Obviously everyone is looking for a tour-like fitting experience with the best trackman equipment, hitting off a grass range, with ProV1x golf balls, etc. but I think you have to be realistic that this type of fitting is rare and expensive. Maybe I'm wrong???

What did I love about PI? The customization....Chris did some paint fill for me on my wedges and didn't charge me for it. I picked out custom ferrules at no extra charge. Also, the selection of shafts at PI is insane. This was my first fitting experience and I was overwhelmed at the amount of shafts/heads that were available. Also, Chris had a lot of patience with me as I was trying to figure out some kinks in my swing. We went through a ton of options and at no point did I get the sense that I was being rushed through the process. Chris also offered to adjust my lie/lofts at the beginning of every season for free.

Sorry for the rambling message, but I have been reading this thread for a while and wanted to add my thoughts....

I want to start by saying Thank-You to Carl and his very helpful staff (Pete and Greg) for allowing me to participate in the Performance Driver fitting today. I won't bore you with the numbers, but wanted to highlight the customer service and The Launch Pad. I was greeted by Carl himself today, very cool dude...we talked for 10 minutes or so about what Carls Golfland has to offer, what there mission is for us golfers, and range balls (The balls I used today were not "flighted balls" by the way). Right away I'd like to say, Carl didn't have to take the time to chat with me about what Carl's Golfland's mission statement is but he did and you can tell he is passionate about it, I respect that. The Launch Pad is sick man...from all the big flat screen displays in the bays, to the lighting, attention to detail in the hitting bays...like where the garage door's fold up into the ceiling...so stealth. Trackman III, latest and greatest firmware...gotta love that. We got a baseline number with a Driver and built off of that...Peter took the time to go over every category that Trackman calculates, I've seen this data before but it is still good to have all of this explained to you up front so you can check a few categories in between Drivers. I think I hit around 45-50 Drives and found a winner for sure...should I share with you guys what I decided on?

Ended up with a 8.5 Titleist 913 D2 with Graphite Design AD-BB6 D3 @45"...this combination felt the best and produced the best numbers. To be fair, all the others I tried were pretty close in terms of metrics, decision came down to looks and feel.

If you have the time, I recommend checking out the Launch Pad.

Couldn't get you away from that AD-BB, huh? I haven't taken too many swings with mine yet, but it does seem to have that AD-DI feel with better launch characteristics for my swing. You go X or S?

I ended up with the stiff flex, I've lost some swing speed of late.

Winning combination yields

145 ball speed
98 club head
16 launch
1800 backdpin
+3.6 Angle of Attack
246 carry
273 total
33* decent angle

I'm assuming these numbers will get better in the summer.

When you look at the fittings charts (Titleist and/or Trackman) the above swing characteristics is optimal for me.
Ping G25 8.5 with AD-DI6 stiff

144 ball speed
98 club
15 launch
2299 backdpin
+3 Angle if Attack
244 carry
265 total
36* decent angle

As you can see, pretty similar...lower spin and lower decent angle will get you that extra roll out.
