Am I the only person around that likes the way the R1 looks?
No, but people who like the way it looks are just waiting to hit the thing. People who don't like it find it necessary to rant their vitriol over 45 pages on Golfwrx, to make sure we all know how TM are insulting the intelligence of their customers in their role as Satan incarnate. If I were a psychologist, I might suggest they're unhappy with their jobs or wives or something.

That said, I went to pre-order an R1, but changed my mind when I learned you have to sacrifice a chicken to do it.
If you ask me a lot of well thought out questions have been asked with zero responses at least for me, your post seems much more vitriol then most, just saying. This "haters" thing is getting really old, seems very childish to me, everyone is entitled to there opinion which can be up for a civil debate but calling a person like myself who is extremely turned off by TM's marketing a hater is way out of line. I passionately feel one size fits all is a retailer/manufacturing deal and has no authentic value to the consumer, also bastardizing previous models less than a handful of years old does indeed insult my intelligence when we ALL KNOW darn well everything is maxed out. Also, let's me honest here, the paint is a marketing Shtick, nothing more..BB

So I give my opinion with fact based reason behind it, you start your rant with "Im not a fanboy" which in turn means...yeah, then we get the sales numbers argument, and then wait for it....the everyones doing it remark. I would have respected your opinion had you just came out and said you like TM and all their products and marketing because they perform and it makes the game more interresting and fun. Cause that would have been reasonable but you didnt. Instead you just perpetuated the stereotype of the TM fan. Keep up the good work.

Some guys need to learn its ok that we all dont agree. Most of us dont get paid to play a particular brand so stop defending them like one of your family members was insulted. Get a grip.

Can't speak for others but my dislike for TMAG isn't a direct result of the graphics on the R1 driver. Its the entire package. Commercials, graphics, equipment claims, etc... I've never argued their equipment doesn't perform. In fact Im looking forward to trying the Rocketbladez tour. But they are experts in marketing and the creators of the hype machine. I dont blame them, its all about the money and a I get that. But I laugh when I see grown men with their face painted on a commercial, or ridiculous claims of yardage gains, or pros wearing hats with hearts on them etc... Do I like the graphics on the R1? no not really. Does it look better in person? yeah Ill give it that but still not a fan. But what bothers me more is TM will and is marketing it like its a new driver when TM guys have said numerous times that theres little diffrence in the R1 vs R11 other than the adjustability which is also in question. Nike on the other hand has a new design with benefit claims assicioted with it. Instead of just painting a VRS and claiming more adjustability and yardage gains to go with it. Now will the covert pan out and perform as claimed time will tell but theres substance behind the claims where I feel TM is alot of hot hair the majority of the time.
Good ppints, but I haven't got the feeling that TM is saying the R1 is 20 yds longer than R11 or at least I haven't seen that advertisement......Covert technology sounds promising and I'll hit it. The R1 for me and the technology presented has a few things going....again for me.......lower,deeper COG allowing for sweetspot to be expanded beyond high center; not too unlike the hi-bores of the past......for those who don't want to tee it up higher , this is a good thing.......As we know true loft measurement varies from manufactuer to manufactuer......so TM, Nike, Cobra etc,etc giving me a wide array of lofts in one clubhead albeit slight, is a good thing....as you know, 80% are in the wrong lofts!!!

Then there is the sound/feel factor....I'm hearing the sound is akin to the vaunted R5 series........lastly, for those who want a TM white driver, the spin has supposedly been reduced......HOORAY!! R11 spun like a top for me and I'm not a high speed guy.

So to wrap this puppy up; I feel there are quite a few factors that aren't distance related directly that can add to the pleasure of my game, so the R1 will find a spot in da bag......

So after saying you agree with my thoughts and they are true, you then say I should be derided for them??

Here's a question for you my friend...after reading your thoughts about me, my thoughts, etc. etc. it occurred to me I can't ever remember you saying what you actually thought of the driver and if you would be playing one this season. Would you care to enlighten us on what your perception of the R1 is and if you plan on bagging one?
First off, my apologies for earlier. Unprofessional and uncalled for. I mean it.

I honestly don't know. I played one for 9 holes 2 months ago. Unlike a lot of others here who can decide which driver they are buying from a couple bad pictures taken at poor angles with poor lighting, I'll actually hit it before deciding. I'm NOT happy with the 10* head being the only option. Like NIKE and Cobra trying the uni-loft system, I have real doubts. No matter what anyone says, it is IMPOSSIBLE to de-couple loft from FA. There is not an engineer alive that will tell you different. We all know there is no more innovation in drivers. Is anything out there better than what I'm playing? No chance. I have access and time to get the right driver. Right now, I have the right driver. I trade drivers for the same reason I have the computing power to land a man on the moon. Because I want to. If anyone gets the magic 20 yards by switching drivers, all it means is his/her old driver was a HORRENDOUS fit for them, and they should slap their pro or their local golf salesman. So, to make a long story short--i don't know. I'll hit it extensively, along with RFE and Covert and others and see what's up. I kinda HAD to play a TM driver due to the fact I have 3K worth of shafts with TM tips laying around. Now that those tips won't work, I am free to experiment. But I won't dismiss something based on something as ridiculous as what it looks like in pictures.

Finally a sensible disagreement with sensible opinions on either side. Thank you. I still look forward to hitting the R1 b/c I like to hit all the options. I hope it works out for you.

Well in my 20+ years of golf; I've come to realize that no major manufactuer makes BAD gear; on the contrary.......I could do a head to toe bag of Lefty Nike,Cally,Titleist,Cleveland and yes TM and be COMPLETELY content!!! I choose TM right now as I enjoy the "LOOK" of TM.....3 Stripes and the coolness of it all.......sure they have a strong pay for play Tour presence with drivers but wedges from the y-cutters days, irons from the 300 series days and of course drivers!!!

I think being Lefty keeps me a lot more open minded.......... also 47 with 5 kids keeps thing in perspective......I use this great Site for its wealth of information and people with the like mindedness of golf pornacopia!!

The ones who come off as "bullies" .............well, you know.....

I don't mind those graphics at all. DJ was crushing this driver in Maui last week the graphics didn't stop them from going on the green.
Completely different driver. Other than the graphics and logos, the driver he used is VERY different from the retail version.

I agree with Smacky on three points out of four.

Agreed that you can NOT disconnect face angle from loft if you are using just ONE loft and an adjustable sleeve.

Agreed that offering only one loft to the retail buyer, while making three lofts available to the tour staff is a terrible idea (see reason above).

Agreed that if a player gets a huge (10+ yards) distance gain from ANY new driver, they were simply using a poorly fit driver before.

Disagree that you cannot rule out a driver based upon appearance. Just like a putter, if it looks bad to my eye, I simply won't consider it.

A 46-page thread on graphics. lol

I guess if TM wanted to generate strong reactions to this look, they succeeded. lol

Guys, no need for feedback. This is the driver. Of the numerous design options on the crown THIS ONE is the one the tour guys preferred, and it is the most radical of all the choices they had. If TM won't release some pics of the other options after they announce this thing for real (won't be long!), I will.
Can you go ahead and post the pics you talked about?

I thought I would hate the graphics..... When I saw them last night, I must say I actually thought they were good. Not because I like a bunch of crap on the crown, but because they make the head look smaller.

The little white triangle is about all you see which makes me feel like I've got a head on there smaller than a pumpkin. Total win.

Stage 2 graphics are terrible IMO

I have to say that at first I thought the graphics were just plain poor... but after trying the club I found that they really did not distract me at all at address and while I think the head would have looked better if they had tossed the white and gone with a darker matte finish, oddly they've grown on me a bit.
