Thanks for the opportunity to learn about your companies, I really appreciate it!

For Callaway:

With COR maxed out, it seems like a logical next step would be to develop design solutions to maximize forgiveness. "Forgiveness" tends to be fairly subjective when talking to golfers-- how do you quantify and measure forgiveness when designing a club? Does designing for "tour" clubs change your targets for forgiveness, versus your off-the-rack design?

For True Temper:

Are you developing any new technology for shaft inserts? Some small companies have focused on this area but the bigger shaft manufacturers haven't changed much.
We believe strongly in SensiCore technology…really does provide a feel that can’t be matched. The thing is that visual technology is a very important part of making a successful product these days. We’re looking at a bunch of different options that could potentially find their way to market down the road.

Dear Callaway gentlemen.

As some of us know, the Udesign program is being launched today. What was the thought process behind creating the program and how was it originated?

True Temper......

In regards to custom options are you going to venture into color options for shafts beyond shaft bands?

Thank you for taking the time.

True Temper: How have the DG shafts changed over the years? Specifically X100 and S300.

Callaway: What enhancements does the channel in the back of the musclebacks serve? Is it like a cavity in a CB club, and if not what are the differences.

Thank you.
They haven’t changed at all with the exception of the Tour Issue Series (S400 & X100). You don’t mess with Coke…ask the Coca-Cola Company how new Coke worked out for them. We will continue to innovate within the Dynamic Gold family (specifically look for a new version on tour in the next couple of weeks!!), but the original remains unchanged. Dynamic Gold is still preferred 3 to 1 each week on the PGA Tour over any other steel iron shaft (over 75 sets in play each week)…its performance is legendary.

I also have a question for True Temper. After speaking with Bill for a bit and having my hands on the PXv already, my question regarding the shaft is with the PXv technology and myself having the PXv in a driver in the tour 52, what would the natural progression be for the fairways? I like a D3-D4 swingweight in my fairways and wondered what weight I should look at for a fairway to keep that progression similar, assuming a 225 gram (give or take) headweight. Also, how would tipping the 6.0 by 1/2" alter the flexural stiffness of the shaft? I need to slightly tighten up the tip and bring the flex up just a bit. Or, should I just look at going up to a 6.5 flex? I forgot to ask Bill these questions is why I ask them here, as I don't want to inundate him with email after email.

The best things to do would be to get your Tour Card or get to know Roger Cleveland. Beyond that, those are very tough to find. We have some very exciting stuff in the works in the wedge category.

Callaway - How do I get my hands on the red/white X hot staff bag?

True Temper - Where do you see shaft tech in 5 years time?
Great question. It’s a tough one to answer. We constantly investigate new material and process technologies in both steel and graphite. We’ve got some really cool things going on in R&D and hopefully you’ll see the results of those projects in the next few years.

Callaway: We saw a huge move towards composite construction in drivers and now you seem to be pulling back from that. Is this something were composite wasn't giving enough advantage or will we see more use of composite in the future?

True Temper: Do you see the graphite iron shaft market getting bigger both on Tour and in the amatuer ranks now that we are seeing a few more players using them in tournaments?
We’re very confident steel will remain the overwhelming iron shaft choice on Tour (over 98%). It’s simply a matter of consistent repeatability (dispersion, trajectory control and distance control). Some players may experiment and get comfortable with graphite, but more times than not they will come back to steel based solely on consistency.

For True Temper:

Any chance we might see a U Design like implemented from Callaway for the RFX for TT graphite shafts? I know this might sound silly to most but I'm big on neutral colours. If a shaft has too many bright graphics or colours I can't play it no mater how good it is. TT isn't bad at all with this. But for example I like the performance of the Project X Blue 6.5. But the blue throws me off. BTW I play flighted 6.5's in my X forged irons. So I am a fan of your products.

For the Callaway staff:

Can you detail the sole design of the X-hot fairways. I always feel this is a vastly over looked design aspect and in my experience plays the largest part in whether a fairway wood is successful.

Also, from early pictures it looks as though more pros, and especially your new staffers, are putting the X-Hot in the bag over the RFE. Do you feel this is personal preference or can you attribute it to some other factor?
We call the sole a "Modern Warbird Sole" the objective is to make it more playable from a variety of lies. Having some radius on the leading from heel to toe and relieving the back of the sole makes it is easier to get the club through the rough and it makes is easier to get the center of the clubface on the ball when the ball is a little above or below your feet. We have a lot of Pros in X HOT fairways, but will have some in RFE as well, mostly personal preference, but even Tour players (and in some cases especially Tour players) like distance.

If you are looking for a heavier fairway we have a couple options depending on how much heavier you want to go. If you are only looking for a couple grams PX Black will get you there, if you are looking for ~10 grams you can look at PXv Tour which is mid 60s in the 6.0.

Regarding tipping vs moving up a flex, if you are just looking for a minor tweak, which it sounds like, definitely just tip it a half. It will tighten it up without getting overly stiff.

I was just wondering if you guys cared to comment on the new marketing direction and how beloved and good looking the new marketing guy is at Callaway. Ive heard great things about him and the work he's doing to eradicate world hunger is so wonderful and his counsel to finally get Lance Armstrong to come clean is to be commended. What a guy.

Anyway, I'll hang up and listen...

I have heard of this new Marketing Guy at Callaway but do not see him very often, he spends most of his time engaged and talking to golfers on GolfWRX and Twitter....and apparently solving the worlds problems. Also not too sure of his claimed 5.6 handicap, that may be his video game handicap.

Callaway:

1 - Why a 430-440cc head for the X Hot Pro driver? Did you test an X Hot Pro 460cc and if so, what made you go with the smaller footprint?

2 - What is the head size in cc's of the X Hot Pro fw's?

3 - And I know this is about Razr Fit and X Hot but a question about the Versa putters: The Versa 90's do not seem to incorporate the same alignment characteristics as the rest of the line. They use a traditional horizontal sight line approach, albeit a bigger one. How do they provide the same alignment benefits as the rest of the Versa line?

Let me start by thanking everyone for taking the time to join our community today. For the Callaway folks could you please clarify if there will be a LH X Utility and if so when will we see it?

For the True Temper guys I play the PX 6.0 in my irons 5-pw. If I am putting a PXi in a 3 or 4 iron to use as a driving iron would I want to go with a 6.5 or stay with a 6.0?
You would certainly be ok moving up to the 6.5, but my best recommendation would be to stay in the 6.0 and enjoy the benefits of the softer feel in the hands. Don't think you'll be disappointed!
