For Callaway

With the talk about increased ballspeed in the XHot fairway woods, do you forsee this as forcing a change in the what clubs a player is fit for? In other words is do you expect that a player whose clubhead speed is best suited for no more than a 17deg 4 wood in conventional FWs to find themselves able to use a 15 deg XHot 3wood, or would they be better served staying with the same loft in an XHot 4w?
The X HOT fairway woods particularly the standard models are designed to be very easy to get up in the air. I would encourage players to try a 3 wood even if they have had trouble getting 3 woods of the past in the air. That being said we do make a 4 wood and it is long too, really you have to demo or get fit to know for sure.

One more question for TT - this is been a heavily debated topic around here - what do you guys feel about "high launch low spin" shafts? Is it just semantics? Do they exist? Can they exist? Are the blueprints of such a design found tattooed on the back of Manti Te'os girlfriend? Thanks for taking the time to answer all our questsions.

A question for both the True Temper and Callaway guys, if I want to be the very best at fitting customers for your product/s what sort of training/education should I undertake?

Currently I read anything that Tom Wishon and Ralph Maltby have to offer and try to keep up to date with online posts on forums such as golf WRX.

To true temper and callaway,

What do you see yourselves doing in the upcoming years to continue the recent trend that will truly set yourselves apart from the other companies out there? Secondly, where do you start that process with? The Consumer, product or marketing?

Looking at two shafts for my new set of irons. TT X-100 and Tour issue TT X-100. How much difference will I be able to tell in the performance of these two shafts? If I were to choose Tour issue TT X-100, what is a good recommendation for wedges (48, 54, 60)
Thanks,
Tour Issue is just a tighter toleranced version of the standard Dynamic Gold (which is already super tight in the first place). You may not be able to feel any perceived difference between the two, but you will know for certain that you've got the very best in your bag. As for the wedges, definitely go with either S400 or DG Spinner. Can't go wrong with either...you want to get a softer feel in your wedges.

I was just wondering if you guys cared to comment on the new marketing direction and how beloved and good looking the new marketing guy is at Callaway. Ive heard great things about him and the work he's doing to eradicate world hunger is so wonderful and his counsel to finally get Lance Armstrong to come clean is to be commended. What a guy.

Anyway, I'll hang up and listen...

I have heard of this new Marketing Guy at Callaway but do not see him very often, he spends most of his time engaged and talking to golfers on GolfWRX and Twitter....and apparently solving the worlds problems. Also not too sure of his claimed 5.6 handicap, that may be his video game handicap.

For Callawin (Err, way) - With the new marketing initiative and the hype of the xbombs. It seems that you might need to generate some crowd sourcing for the xbomb #patches4thepeople. How do you plan on executing this?
Glad you like the idea and the hype around the bombs. We will have an idea to bring to the people that we will be sharing soon. We promise you will not be disappointed.

HI Guys, thanks for your time today.

For Callaway: What are your thoughts on driver length for the consumer getting longer and harder to control when the majority of players on tour use drivers that are much shorter than the 46 inch drivers that are becoming standard on new driver offerings.

For True Temper: Are your shafts being developed to better suit swing characteristics in the new longer length of driver shafts or can these new shafts able to perform at any length if they are trimmed down to a more controllable length.

Thanks.
We have done a lot of testing in this area, as you can imagine, and our data shows that for most average golfers the X HOT performs best at 46", that length gives them the best combination of distance and control. Tour players generate a lot more speed than average players so for them control is paramount. Most of our Tour players use 45" drivers, but some use shorter and some use longer.

I play DG S300 in my irons. I am interested in the pxi and want to know what flex in that shaft I should start with to demo? I will also be getting a Razr Fit Extreme 21* fairway and wondered if the PXv is available for that head?

Thanks.

Thanks for the opportunity to learn about your companies, I really appreciate it!

For Callaway:

With COR maxed out, it seems like a logical next step would be to develop design solutions to maximize forgiveness. "Forgiveness" tends to be fairly subjective when talking to golfers-- how do you quantify and measure forgiveness when designing a club? Does designing for "tour" clubs change your targets for forgiveness, versus your off-the-rack design?

For True Temper:

Are you developing any new technology for shaft inserts? Some small companies have focused on this area but the bigger shaft manufacturers haven't changed much.
We believe strongly in SensiCore technology…really does provide a feel that can’t be matched. The thing is that visual technology is a very important part of making a successful product these days. We’re looking at a bunch of different options that could potentially find their way to market down the road.
Great, thanks for the response! It would be cool to see some new options out there.

Do you see a large number of players who assume dynamic gold is the best shaft for them, and then transition into something different? What is a common transition?
I'm not sure if player's automatically default into Dynamic Gold or not, but as far as the transition into something else, it is completely random. Sometimes we see players switch into something that is so far removed from what they were currently playing that it defies logic. I will say that in most cases players will ultimately come back to Dynamic Gold if they used it at some point in the past.

CallawayLuke...how is it going Luke-san!! Did you already do the Japan trip?? How'd it go?

Anyway...between the XHP and RFE driver, other than the Feel of the all Ti and the Forged Composite head, how much difference in overall structure will affect the ball flight? Different CG's? Different internal weighting? or just the overall design is attributable to the lower RPM's generated by the RFE.

Still clearing the ears after having listening to you BOMB the ball at La Costa that day!!

Callaway & true temper - what are the pros/cons of the x utility vs a typical hybrid like the x hot hybrid? Since they are shaped more like a true iron, would you recommend steel shafts or graphite?
Most people go with a steel shaft in the X Utility Iron to match with the Iron set. The Utility will have a slightly lower, more boring trajectory than a comprable Hybrid.
