CP, how about some more info on the Stage 2 Tour driver? :) Tried the regular Stage 2 and it was a beast but could use some lower spin. Please tell me that the S2 tour driver is lower spin and will be available sometime soon.

higher more forward CG for lower launch and piercing flight. exactly the same head, just different CG. with the lower launch and piercing flight you should get less spin! i was a big fan of it when i hit it at the PGA show, great feel and good sounding driver. my spin rate was around 2700 RPMs with a 65g shaft, was fit to a 70g-75g shaft to help drop the spin 300-500RPMs

Thanks, CP! It's too bad the face isn't deeper but if the performance isn't there, then it sounds like a winner.

Here's pictures of the of the RBZ vs Stage 2. You can see the Stage 2 has a deeper face this year then last years non tour version.

You see the video of the English guy hitting the r1 and stage 2? Not mark crossfield. He had better distance numbers with the 2. Doesn't use the same shafts either. Never mind lol.

I'll try and help everyone out as everything I experienced out in San Diego, I was never once told to keep a lid on anything. During my fitting at the kingdom, I was told by my fitter, Alan Stone, that the V2 head was gonna be better fit for someone of my skill level. I pound the ball off the tee (115-120 SS). I was having a really good day at the fitting where I was hitting everything on the "screws", I had maybe 1 or 2 mis-hits the whole fitting. The V2 is a smaller head, 420cc and its not as deep. When I hit it on the screws, Alan told me I was picking up around 16 yards everytime with a near identical shaft that I had in my R11. While I don't want to make it sound like I'm putting down my fellow winners and friends who were on the trip with me, I was shocked when I was done with my fitting to find out they were also getting tour heads. Certainly, forgiveness is a more needed attribute than workability.

What is the exact reason for the V2? I wasn't told that answer. But I liken it to the same thing as tour players getting less offset in their custom irons or abnormal grinds on their wedges. Guys on tour just don't like a 460cc head. Guys on tour don't want a driver that is more forgiving. Guys want to be able to work their driver. I'm willing to bet the smaller "sweet spot" on the V2 probably is hotter or maybe more consistent than a retail model. The V2 is the same as any other custom option for a tour player. It's not offered in retail probably for the fact that Vokey doesn't offer K grinds in the retail wedges or Odyssey doesn't offer the exact model Phil putts with. It's Custom!!

  • 2 weeks later...

I still have not seen a single word w an explanation on the v2. Am I missing something here or are we never gonna hear the real story?
Highly doubt it takes a month to type up this simple article

Chilli9880- thanks for the info and curious how big the difference in spin and launch were w the v2.
