Cool set, they are called box grooves, very few boxed groove sets were made,you have a very rare set I have 2 sets of experimental ,one has box grooves and one does not.
Any old auto chrome cleaner and 00 steel wool , or sos pad will make the heads look much better

Another very nice looking set of clubs guisician, if a bit of polishing gets them all looking like the 2 iron it will be well worth the effort. I appreciate the effort you have gone to with your photos eg. detail of hosel, grips etc. so thank you again for starting and continuing this thread.

I did not want to jump on this wonderful post but Guisician asked to to post a few pics of some Hogans. I have most of my irons boxed up but remembered I had a few in the loft,
There are about 60 sets of Hogan irons in the loft, and a few wedges and a pic of Hogan Precision woods and Macgregor Hogan woods that all will be refinished some day.

If I could add anything to this awesome post it would be this great looking driver. Dave Wood said after looking at it he thought there is a very good possibility based on the design and other things he visually saw it could have been made up for Mr. Hogan himself. There would be 1 way to tell , if the sole plate was removed and inspected for a specific weight positioned in a certain way.

Actually you should have seen the loft before I took out about 100 sets!! I got rid of most all Macgregor and Wilson staff.
I started getting serious about Hogan about 18 years ago when I found a set of first year Precision's missing the 9 iron. It drove me crazy as I went every where looking for it and started seeing other clubs and a monster was born. I have always had extra sets but became addicted to his brand, my dad played Hogans and then Ebay came along and made it much easier to find clubs.

Another beautifully presented set Guisician, made my day. Was it usual for the wedge to have a different ferrule or is it because it is supplementary to the irons? Oops, just noticed the 5 iron is missing the red bands too so assume they have fallen off during the years of use.
