Thoughts on the 2009 TM Tour Preferred irons

I've got a line on a really nice set of Taylormade 2009 Tour Preferred irons. I had a set of these back in the day and liked them pretty well as I remember. I'm wondering what the WRX gurus think of those clubs and how they stack up as a low-offset cavity back for feel, forgiveness and distance?

I was looking at the pics from one of the pro tourny's a few weeks ago, and the first two TM bags i saw both had the 2009 tour preferred irons.

Great clubs, I played em with S-300 for 2 or 3 seasons. I replaced them with AP2 712 a year ago or so & haven't looked back. I hit thr Titleists more consistent. 09 Tour Preferreds are great but I think the AP2 712 are superior, definitely improved my GIR with them

I didn't like them and traded them away a few years ago. Different strokes for different folks.

This Summer, I stepped up to TaylorMade Tour Preferred irons from TaylorMade Tour Burners. Bought a set used with green Aldila NV Multi Comp 85g shafts in stiff flex - had a wild hair to try graphite.

I was fairly pleased with the Tour Preferred set, as it had fairly classic looks & lofts, without eliminating all forgiveness. As much as I liked my Tour Burners, I liked the Tour Preferred set even more. Not sure if it was because of the graphite or not.

I now have a set of TM SpeedBlades on order (w/DG XP S300 steel shafts) to replace the Tour Preferred set. Will report on the new set after a few rounds.

They look great in my opinion. I'd love to game them one day.

I really liked them. Not sure why I got rid of them. My biggest issue with them was occasionally I would hit one about 10 yards farther than I would expect it to go. If they had just a little less offset and not had the occasional flyer from a fairway lie I would probably still be playing them. The soles on them were really set up for a digger swing type, which I am.
