It is getting out of control with fans yelling stuff after players hit! (merged)

People are getting more obnoxious after players hit on tv! I mean people just go to golf tourneys now to drink and socialize! The ignorance I encounter at work and on the road is bad enough! Now I go to watch my beloved golf and it is there now! Dbags walking around with popped collars and loudmouth pants! I mean the "you da man" was bad enough. Now some goof texts his buddies watching on tv..."hey listen in a bit I am going to yell something stupid after Tiger hits"..............guh!!!

I've noticed that the crowds are getting ridiculous. It's like the guy is tivo'ing the tourney at home and then yells some babba booey comment so he can hear himself on TV later.

"GET IN THE HOLE!!!" isn't applicable from the tee box of a par 5.

This won't be happening at Augusta or they'll be shot by snipers.

The PGA tour should hire a platoon of midget wrestlers to move unnoticed within the crowd, if they hear some one yell... D*^K punch. The audible variance during the outburst would clue the fans at home that business has been handled. Take notice Tim Finchem.

I dont recall it happening on other tours than the PGA ( although it might)

I put it down to simpletons who want to go back to their friends and say did you hear that guy yell mashed potatoes on the 4th. "THAT WAS ME!!!!"

I have thought the get in the hole of tee boxes the dumbest thing I have heard....

The people who do that kind of theing are also THAT GUY at your local course....

I also think galleries have the right to get behind their favourite polayers and encourage then but out and out d@*kheads need to be ejected from the course....

Surely the golfers have the right to be surrounded by supporters of golf and not morons...

As long as they aren't doing it during the guy's swing who cares? Last I checked, the PGA Tour was a professional sports organization and these guys are professional athletes. Maybe I could understand if people were shouting insults at players or something, but go to a Phillies-Mets game on dollar dog night- you think "mashed potatoes" is bad? Go to an NHL game where a bad call from the ref brings a 20,000-strong chorus of "a**hole!, a**hole!"

I'd like to think most here agree that golf is a sport, or at least that pro golf is. Pro sports have fans who pay money to enjoy themselves. If part of that is yelling something goofy once in a while, who cares? Personally I think the "mashed potatoes" one is hilarious.

It annoys me, but I don't see it going away unless something is done about it. A rule against that would be difficult to enforce since there are respectful, positive comments said to the players as well. When I heard a woman shout get in the hole a few weeks ago, I felt that all was lost. Maybe I'm just expecting too much from golf fans.

Also, the best way to get the annoying fans under control is for better fans to heckle them into obscurity.

Last time I went to a PGA tournament somebody did a "get in the hole!" on a par 5 tee box. I didn't shout, just used an outside voice with "not gonna get there buddy": drew a chuckle from the crowd and the players, and shut the dude right up.

Fans should really have more fun with this kinda stuff.

Just get more creative. Guy hits a long putt, "your ability to judge pace and break on these difficult greens is impressive, dawg!"

I believe they prefer to be called little people, but I like the idea, it will open up a lot of new job opportunities.

Drones ,man. That's the answer, drones.
Brilliant! They wouldn't even know what hit them...

I don't think it's a big deal, but is a bit annoying. Can't imagine what the players actually think, if they even hear them.

But c'mon, there has to be at least one or two of you tools on this forum who can at least own up to it under the guise of the interwebs? Just tell us why you think it's cool... The drones won't know who you are.

Golf isn't baseball or hockey. On the professional level it's still supposed to be a gentleman's game where manners matter. It should be printed on every ticket that if you yell something stupid after a shot, you're gone. No warnings, no second chances.

That's the problem. Golf is supposed to be different than other sporting events.
