Its one thing for the tour to make a rule but another to enforce it. I think the answer would be to stick two volunteers with each "marquee" group because these as$clowns only do it to the groups on TV. You wouldn't need that many volunteers for it and they could stand on either side of each tee box looking out for this nonsense.

I had to mute every tee shot today. Just terrible.

The fix is easy: print on tickets "if you shout stupid crap after a shot you will be thrown out." And then enforce the rule.
Somehow, ANGC can and does enforce this. I'm thinking everywhere else has the ability...

Money vs Order... yeah, Money trumps.

All they need to do is contain alcohol sales to designated areas, and the drinkers will drink, and the fans will watch golf. And I hate to say it, but avoid tournaments in the north east like New York and Boston where most of the rudest fans attend golf events.

Late to this thread. Sorry if this has already been discussed.

With more of these IQ challenged “fans” seeming to pop up and compete for attention, it seems to me that they are trying to time their yell to be the first. Some of the outbursts this weekend were pretty close to impact. How can that not start to affect the players? If I know that someone will scream out when I swing I will no doubt anticipate that. That is the last thing a player needs to be thinking about when trying to win a tournament.

I agree that it is time to stop this.

I swear the world is getting dumber. Our technology and opportunity is growing faster than these idiots can adapt properly.

I think that sums it up.

I don't know I see this at almost every event and very few are in the northeast.

Agree about the alcohol though, not saying all these morons are drunk but no doubt alcohol plays a part.

Do they serve alcohol at Euro Tour events? You never hear the fans yelling dumb stuff on the Euro tour... and unlike the PGA events, it doesn't seem like every fan in the gallery has a beer in their hand.

Unfortunately those guys are looked at as customers, and as the old saying goes "the customer is always right". I've worked in retail management for over 15 years and no matter what rules, policies, or ethics are broken short of murder, the customer is always right. The tournament patrons are paying and money trumps everything. If the top players would stop playing in these tournaments, the sponsors could loose money because less people would attend. Then they'll stop the few genius' yelling ignorant things. The players may not like it, but they're going to play because of the money they'll earn. Once tournament directors/PGA saw the amount of money the Waste Management tournament in Arizona was making, the flood gates for stupidity were opened. Intoxicated people spend a lot more money than sober people. It's not about true golf fans enjoying the greatest game on earth, it's about cash. Unfortunately we've all had a hand in the greed that controls everything today. Even myself, although I hate to admit it. The love of money is the root of all evil (1 Tim. 6:10).

I was at Pebble this year and it never happened. I was waiting for a yahoo to yell something and I was going to embarrass the crap out of him and single him out in the crowd. "What's wrong with you, man? Take it down a notch, you look like an idiot" And similar chastising.

I can't believe that 2-3 guys yelling don't catch a load of flack from the other 200 patrons standing on the tee box. And the funny thing about the PGA Championship is that it sounded like the same 2-3 guys following Dufner and Furyk hollering after each drive.

One poster about 20 pages back claimed it is the entitlement mentality "I paid good money to be here, I'm entitled to be able to yell out after a shot"

My thoughts on that are, yes, these people paid money, just like the thousands of other fans who want to enjoy the day at the tournament, and are not doing this. And I don't believe that the "customer is always right" adage is in effect here. You have a half dozen belligerent fans making these comments out of the tens of thousands of other guests? Chances are a number of the "mashed potatoes" folks didn't even pay for their ticket...so no money lost there

If I go to a sporting event, and want "extra entertainment" (food, drinks, alcohol etc), I pay more. If someone wants to yell the asinine comments, let them, but also let them know, the "privilege" of yelling after the shot is a package deal that is going to cost them an extra ($100? $500? $1000) in fines. But with that package they get the publicity of being on the camera as security takes them down, and they get a police escort back to their car.

So the PGA Tour ended the caddy races at the Waste Management, but they let this continue. Way to tackle the big issues first guys!
I think the Waste management should be all out party. I love the energy there and the caddy races. Have one tourney where it all goes and because it's once a year, it makes the energy of the tournament much more special. That would be fun and good for the game I think. Otherwise let's get back to reality and stop acting 14.

How great would it be if Dufner was sponsored by:

Skoal
Budweiser (or better yet Hamm Beer)
Bigfoot Monster Truck
Idaho Potatoe regiment (aka, Mashed Potatoes)
WWE
US Army
XXX Protein Powder

...This could be an investment consortium targeting redeck profiled golfers, including:

John Daly
Boo Weekly
Bubba Watson?

Alcohol is on sale at ET events. You get the odd person in fancy dress, but most of the real drunken yahoos go to the football (proper football without the makeup and shoulder pads), rugby and cricket.

I was at Oak Hill for the entire week and until Sunday there was no yelling. The crowd was very respectful and quite. It is the PGA's Tour fault when the yelling starts since they allow booze sales at 9am and they don't punish the yellers. Crazy thing is they have cell phone police for people who forget to turn off thier ringers which seems mild compared to a yeller which can be heard from two fairways away.

Sadly this is what I noticed as well and the person that said it wasnt booze related is wrong. If you listen to the GC coverage after the event you can hear the idiots who are obviously drunk yelling back and forth to each other. I wouldnt doubt that a lot of it comes from corporate tents because a bunch of people show up for the free food and booze and really arent golfers.

An all-time low this week. I switched off.

Most Americans on here are absolutely fine, as has been pretty much every American I have ever met (with the exception of a couple of ridiculously stupid Texans)... So why does golf in the US act as some sort of mecca to the moronic, 40 year old virgin demographic of US society?

Stupid Texan?! I no stupid !!!! Haha, it's the trailer parks!!! Also, I guarantee that curbing the beer sales at the events will not sober these morons up. They are in the parking lot talking about how many Keystone lights they drank the night before at the crack of dawn.

Get a really hot girl to stand on the tees. Then have her roll her eyes and make fun of the people who yell!! No dude likes that!!! 1118-398x600.jpg

I'm from Rochester, and I was there. Not once did I yell anything, because I have respect for the game and its players. But it shines a bad light on what is otherwise a great golfing city.

did you say or do anything to try get those used tissue nuggets to stop?

Sunday they didn't serve beer until noon, and I was at the tournament until around 3PM. There was very little yelling until the last few groups started getting down the back 9 (and a select few started getting drunk, apparently). I sat on the first tee at the start of the tournament, and no one yelled for the first 5 or 6 groups. Saw a couple guys come in, talking loudly and egging each other on (a few minutes before phil). Phil tees off, they yell "Get in the hole" or something stupid, and I yelled "Hush!" - didn't hear any other yelling for the next 3 or 4 groups (then we followed Jimenez), and people thanked me for saying something.
For those who keep saying "have a sense of humor" and such, I DO have a sense of humor, love to laugh, crack jokes, etc. But at a golf tournament, or watching on TV, it is quite distracting and just makes the person yelling sound like a complete jacka$$. I'm reminded about the guy from happy gilmore who is hired to follow him around...

That Howard Stern clip was irritating to listen too, love their complete ignorance of golf and how they are encouraging this. "Our fans aren't golf fans so they should be happy they are gaining them." No, we aren't, keep that crap on your show (which I don't mind his show at times, it just needs to not make it's way into golf).
