I remember my first skymark, I cried a little inside because it was a brand new driver too. You'll only do this once, hopefully.

First treat with Liquid Glass and then use automotive pin stripping in a matching color. Run it where the face and crown meet before hitting any new wood.

Sorry man. Worst feeling ever. As a temporary fix try buffing it out with some Nu Finish and then getting some car touch up paint that will match. Go to an art supply store to find a nice sable paint brush. Try touching it up and quickly wiping off the excess with a t-shirt and a very little amount of turpentine. Will never be the same but at least you can get the white scratches to be filled in a little.

Never quite got the massive tee height some people use for modern drivers. As mentioned elsewhere the general rule is no more than the upper equator of the ball over the top of the head, and a lot of people don't even tee it that high, myself included.

Live and learn. At least there's always a refinish, eh?
[/quote]

exactly...i've never used the larger tees and i use a 460cc driver....i tee it up to where half the ball meets the top of the face

I've done this to my 3 wood and you can touch it up yourself relatively easily if you can find a decent paint match. It won't look perfect, but it'll look pretty good. Go to an automotive store and find a close match paint. Apply and slightly overfill the scratches then just wet sand it down. I had a car touch up kit that included the sand paper, these foam sanding pads, and even a polishing compound to finish it off with. Worked pretty good and you could only really tell in good light that it was touched up. Still playing that 3 wood to this day. And the amazing thing is I somehow managed to do that hitting off the deck, not off a tee....ground was really soft that day and I have no idea what my swing was doing.

You can add me to the camp that doesn't tee the ball very high, partly for this reason. For one thing, I just don't need to...getting the ball up has never been a problem for me. Second, I just find it weird to set up with the ball that high and I'm always afraid I'm going to sky it.

What's the complaint? With a mark like that there should be a dent.

I did the same thing with my TaylorMade R7 CGB Max 3 Wood years ago, which had that same red finish to it as the Coverts. Pretty disappointing, but that's what you get for a bad shot!

+1 - had the same club. Never sky marked it but that black face looked like poo after hitting range balls.

Uh. You definitely deserved that if you're going to sky a driver that badly. Should've bought some lessons instead of a new club.
