Uh. You definitely deserved that if you're going to sky a driver that badly. Should've bought some lessons instead of a new club.
Thats a little harsh.

Some would call it "tough love" :cheesy:

First treat with Liquid Glass and then use automotive pin stripping in a matching color. Run it where the face and crown meet before hitting any new wood.
Would like to hear more about this process if you have more info. THanks.
Liquid Glass is an automotive paint treatment. You apply per directions which is nearly the same as waxing. It is best when allowed to bake in the sun. It forms a hard crystal clear coating. The more coats, the more protection. Simply apply, set in sun until it drys, buff and reapply over and over again. It is not the end all but it will protect against mild sky marks, etc... And help keep em looking new. I'll tear mine ever few months after the initial treatments. I believe there is a very long thread on the stuff here or on the free golf info forums.

I popped up a nearly new 3 wood several years ago and got the idea to find automotive pin stripping and run across the head where the face and crown meet. The first time i did it i used white on a black head so that i could see my face angle. I didn't like it so i took it off and went with black pin stripping on a black head. The automotive tape is very easy to shape and it takes about 5 minutes with final trim done with a razor knife. I do not put it on the face. i run it along the crown were it meets the face. If one has a bad swing the tape protects the head. If the pin stripping matches the head, it is unlikely that anyone will ever notice it is there.in a nut shell, it does the same thing as the clear popup protector tape but isn't nearly as noticeable.

Please note that even though you don't notice it at address, it is not legal for usga play. I don't use this trick very often anymore as I do play in the club championships but I would NEVER take a new none Liquid Glass treated head out for play.

Don't feel bad OP, I have a skymark that people wouldn't believe was real on my driver.

Lost my grip on my downswing wearing winter gloves and have a mark literally on the top of the crown in the middle. It's a bit silly. I'll add a pic of the ridiculousness if I can remember.

Pick up some rubbing compound in the automotive section at any store, that will take care of most of it. While you are there, find a close match in the nail polish section and touch of the spots where the paint is gone. Give it a day to dry/cure and hit it with the rubbing compound again. It will be good enough from address. If you need to touch up along the top line, mask the spot and pull the tape back as soon as you finish applying the touchup. At least you got this out of the way, its like waiting for the first door ding on a brand new car. Now you can relax. :)

+1 The club is not ruined. Just go play. And tee it lower....at least until your swing improves.

I don't tee my ball up high enough to stand a chance of doing that. In fact i always thought the rule of thumb was to tee the ball up so no more than half the ball is above the face, and I stick to that for the very reason that I don't want a big nasty sky mark on top of my new shiny driver!

I wouldn't ever take the headcover off in public again let alone post pics on here!
I was just thinking that it would be almost impossible to get a modern driver under a teed up ball. Isn't there a tee height limit of about 3&3/4" or something? I use 3&1/4" and the club won't go under.

I take it you're a professional golfer?
I will be when I get out of college:) I really can't remember the last time I skied a ball. Hit it high on the face, sure. But just outright sky one? Probably the last time I did that I was 9 or 10.

That ball gave the wind the FINGER!

If you have never put a dummy mark on a club that was near and dear to your heart then either
1) you have missed out on a true golfing experience
2) never been so pissed off in you life
3) very fortunate

I swear I read on either this forum or "that other one" that someone did the same thing to their no Covert and Nike actually replaced it. I'll see if I can dig it up.

I couldn't find it.

Call Nike. Even though it was your fault they may help you out. Express your opinion that the finish should not damage that easily.

Just grab one of those Mr. Clean magic erasers and give that a try and it won't damage the paint. They work really well on the Titleist and Taylormade heads removing sky marks and they are cheap in your local grocery store.
that will ruin the sorounding paint. Mr clean is abrasive.

One sky hit off the tee and look what's happened!

Yeah, Nike's paint is sub-par just like all of their golf equipment! They should be able to go unscathed from a dirty sand-covered range ball drop-kicked off the crown...

You only have yourself to blame on that one. Ooops

I like these threads, we get great information. We now know its because Nike makes "sub par" equipment guys. Good work

I am not are if that is a mettle head or a carbon head, but if it's a titanium head you can use a chemically strip to strip the top of the head and use a rattle can to paint it. I know it sounds like a hil billie solution but it makes the club look mean and you will hit it better. Trust me. Clubs that are custom always play better
