I just started in June and I'm looking to break 90 by December.  I'm looking for like-minded individual(s) to play with on the more affordable courses or anyone who could offer some help on my quest.

I belong to a traveling golf league that plays all around Houston. We are a small league and all scoring is net using USGA handicaps. We play pretty much every other Sunday morning. Some of the courses we are playing this season are Timber Creek, Magnolia Creek, Southwyck, Woodlands-Panther Trails and Oaks, Houston National, Evergreen Point, and a bunch of others.

If you have an interest in checking out the league, give me a shout.

Thanks for the props Lance! I have since shot 96, 97, 98, and 99 (not in that order). I've shot 44 on fronts/backs so I know I can get there.

RickK:

I've only played 18 rounds (on regulation courses), so I have a couple rounds to go before I get an official handicap. I'll be joining Bayou Golf Association in the coming weeks. I'll hollar back at you in January.

Thought I'd post an update.

Broke 90 on 1/22/2006 with an 89 an San Jack

Broke 80 on 9/30/2006 with a 77 at San Jac

Have yet to break 90 at a more difficult course, but I feel confident that it will happen real soon.

On another note, I shot an even par nine at Green Caye (par 3 course).

Check my blog for the details.

Its not a "par-3 course" but Hillcrest in Alvin is a lot of fun. Is not the best conditioned, but has 9 holes, 4 or 5 of which are par 3s, only one par 5, and they have lights, too (I've made many drunken loops around that place). Good short game practice because the greens are TINY - especially on the par 3s. You should try it out if you're in that area.

Hey thanks guys. I'll make an outing one of these days. I would have played at Southwyck had I saw the post earlier. Blackhorse is a little pricey for me at this time. How about Tour18 on a Monday or Tuesday morning? They've been having great deals lately, like $29.

I just played Hillcrest this morning. I like the layout quite a bit. I wish it was a play all day course so I could get 27-36 in.

Playing Eagle Pointe Sunday at 2:42 with a friend. Two slots open (book them here - www.PGA18.com) if anyone wants to join us.

I just purchased a set of J33 Combos on eBay. Can't wait till they get here!

Hcp down to 18.05 after playing the game for just 16 months.

I shot a dissapointing 93 at Eagle Pointe after a good start on the front (42). I was hitting the Top-Flites.

I got the J33s and hit them at the range once and played a round at Pasadena (93).

I was pretty upset when I was getting 15-20 yards less out of these clubs. I couldn't seem to get the 8i more than 145. I get 165 all day with the Top-Flites.

Then I took them to Golfsmith and had the lofts checked on both sets. Turns out that the Top-Flites are 2 degrees strong and the j33s are 2-3 degrees weak. I'm going to have them brought back to specs.

Any recomendations or warnings about having this done at Golfsmith?

Thanks,

-Greg

OK, clubs are at Golf Etc. They're a couple bucks per club more expensive, but I was there and I want them done.

I hit a few buckets at the range last night (mats only, stupid rain...). I'm having a hard time drawing the ball. I hit a soft fade most of the time and when I try to draw the ball, I seem to only straighten it out. I'm talking mainly about the 3-5 irons here. The higher lofted clubs don't fade too bad but I do tend push them a bit.

It seems like I'm having to turn over hard to close the face. Could it be that stiff shafts are too much for me?

My swing speed on the 8 iron is 82-83. Driver ss is 100-110 but I have a reg flex shaft there.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks,

-Greg

Thought I'd update my thread here with a milestone:

Got my first EAGLE yesterday ;) at Beacon Lakes on number 8. Ended up carding an 83 from the tips with one OB, one H2O, and one 3-putt. Oh, and one EAGLE

Shooting mid 80s to mid 90s regularly now.

Handicap currently 11.53 after playing just 3 years.

Current goal is to get below 10.

Still looking for folks to play with in the southeast Houston area.

I'm in Baytown, and always looking for folks to play with. Work has me rather busy now, but I usually play at least once per week, and usually on Sundays. I play alot of rounds by myself, which I actually enjoy. I only have a few friends who play regularly, so the more the merrier. PM me if you ever want to get a round in.
