CHICAGO GOLF! SERIOUSLY!!

Alright guys, I practice all the time at oak brook golf club and attached a photo of what it looks like now. Thanks chicago, for taking away golf from me for a couple of weeks. Also, I attached a photo of Oak Park Country Club (the photo with the halfway house). Oak Park Country Club seems like they are in horrible condition as well. So, lets use this is a post to post pictures of your courses and say all the courses that are open and in good shape!

I'd be shocked if anybody were open this weekend... We're scheduled to host an MAJGT tournament this weekend and just cancelled it. Hope to be open on Monday!

I remember playing Downers Grove last year a day or two after a bad storm and there were fish all over the 7th fairway from the pond that overflowed.

i was actually supposed to play in the MAJGT. I was a little bummed it got cancelled but hey its Chicago weather

My gym overlooks Downers Grove... it doesn't look as bad as I thought it was going to but it's not playable. I drive by Village Greens in Woodridge on the way home and last night I didn't see any standing water but there are some lower points toward the back of that course I might take this weekend off, the places that do manage to get opened up will probably be slammed and I can barely take normal weekend pace of play let alone busy weekend pace of play.

Talked to many of my friends in the western burbs- serious damage...

Butterfield, River Forest, Glen Oak, Riverside (which sits on the Des Plaines river and will struggle for awhile) to name a few... Will take weeks.

Riverside is almost completely under water. I drive past it every day, and it looks like a lake. Only the holes along 1st Avenue are dry, with water running nearly up to the green that sits on the corner of 1st Ave and 26th St. It's incredible and I have a hard time believing they'll recover any time soon.

Wow...I'm heading out there (just north of Chicago) on the first of May - hopefully things will be better by then. Any recommendations on midpriced public courses? Thanks in advance

That happened back in '08. Am a member (on leave as I change things up a bit professionally- was going back this year!) I recall that all too much. They will struggle to open all their holes by July. Its s shame really- looked forward to getting back. They had issues at the end of last playing season as the super used untreated water directly from the river. On the greens...

The weather this year for Chicago has been terrible. Hopefully we have a nice May to get the courses in great shape for the remainder of the year.

Anybody know of any courses that are fully open in the western burbs? Just want to get out and play today and not pay up the a## I saw Broken Arrow was open but they possibly have some holes closed and still want $50...Naperbrook and Springbrook are both open but unless they fixed drainage issues since I worked at those courses they'll be a mess (I know neither are letting carts out). Carillon claims to be fully drained so maybe I'll head out there....

Western burbs got the brunt of this weeks weather (as I'm sure you're aware), wonder how everything its going to shake out.

I'm actually in Elmhurst at sis/bro in law helping with their water damage. Drywall, tile, insulation... They seem to be a bit lucky as well...

Yea, we were bummed too. We're still in rough shape! Front 9 only and walking only today.

You'll be surprised at how quickly the course will recover. Back in the mid-nineties Pecan Hollow in Plano, Tx flooded (more than once) to the point where on a couple holes the nut on the end of the flag was all that was visible.
If memory serves we were playing golf a week later.
Somewhere I have pictures. At least I did.

a few things come to mind:

a lot of these courses are in floodplain so this is guaranteed to happen whenever it rains like it did.

this may not cause as much damage to the turf as some are expecting. the damage comes when the water sits in the fairway and the sun boils it.

Drove past oak brook the day after the big rain and was shocked the entire front 9 was underwater.

Blew my back out so haven't been trying to get out, but it looks like Schaumburg is open.

We're probably lucky this happened early in the season as opposed to summer or early fall as we've seen in years past, or at least that's what I keep telling myself... Hopefully this gives courses a little time to recover when they're generally still doing that now anyway.

Played Bowes Creek in S. Elgin today course was in great shape. Moved the ball once in the fairway when very close to drainage, other than that didn't notice water issues. First time there can't wait to get back. Was told Highlands of Elgin is in very good shape after the rain as well.

the rain here is brutal. i wanted to play a local course by me (fox bend in oswego) and they still had a few holes under water. number 6 is a par 3 and was completely under water and could only see the top of the flagstick. and most of 11 and 16 were still submerged. but hopefully this rain stops today and dry out alittle by sunday when it is suppose to be very nice out.
