Does anyone know how to join the cheapest golf course in NZ so you can become an affilate NZ member? because as an international player you will need a large some of money or creditcard with a high credit balance. 2 different prices for locals or NZ members. I was just there and some of the highend courses I would not recommend for the money. They have had a very dry summer so everything is burnt(not their fault) but if you were to be a NZ member somewhere well..... I tried to find out how to do that, but no one seems to know. I also tried to contact people on golf NZ wbsites and no one even replied. So if anyone has any suggestions? It is a very long way to go just to play average courses in my opinion. 2 great courses over there Cape Kidnappers & Kauri Cliffs which will cost $500/round. I don't know. Is that not the same as Pebble Beach? Hard to beat PB. Don't get me wrong it is very beautiful over there and the people are great and easy going. I just want to play golf for something a little more of a reasonable price. Thx to anyone who has the answer.

Sorry I can't help you out with your question, but I have to comment...That's $500/round plus crazy airfare and a full day (like19 something hours flight time - not counting any stop overs - from the East coast of the US) of travel time...No thanks! Cape Kidnappers looks amazing from the air (photo's only in my case) and I would definitely want to play it if I somehow found myself over there but...I'll take Pebble for my $ - unless I hit the Powerball or something along those lines :-)

I don't know if its the cheapest but Takapuna Golf Course on Auckland's North Shore offers affiliate membership for NZ$185 (or did do last year). Gives you a Golf NZ membership and handicap index. Affiliate green fees at most clubs aren't that much cheaper than the non-affiliate green fees though.

Tapora golf clubs annual sub is $120 NZ for a year. Its a club that most visitors use as a membership base
Thx so much. I will try that next time I am in your amazing beautiful country. Not just the scenery. The people who make up its society. Its definately a place me and my wife could spend our lives in forever.

Its not $500 its $385 and thats in NZ dollars.
Yes it is $385 NZ $$$ plus 15% tax and $36.75 for cart which is about $480. I rounded up.
Their high season rate works out to $400-410 USD ($300-310 for low season). My brother-in-law just returned from there and said that it was as great of a golf experience as any he's played. It goes in his top 5 which includes multiple trips to Bandon, Old Course, Royal County Down, Muirfield, Pebble, Pinehurst and others. I know that he thoroughly enjoyed Kauri Cliffs as well. He said it would be a top 15-20 course for him.

Unless you find yourself in New Zealand on a regular basis, then it is absolutely a course worth splurging on.
Yep, that's a lot of coin all right. I was lucky enough to play Kidnappers a couple of years ago for a mates stag do. I paid (I think) $215 off season as a NZ affiliated golfer. I would have to consider it some of the best money I've ever spent...but I'm not sure I could justify $500 for ANY course ANYWHERE. I work for a living & have kids. I think tourists (US in particular) are seen as a cash cow here. As someone pointed out, it's a long flight down here from the US so I think that should be recognized. I don't know of any Kiwis who would complain that US visitors paid the same rate we did to play golf...unless the courses decided to put "local" rates up to the international rate!
