I love reading all of this "inside" information that I know is false. Nothing like some good comic reading on a thursday night.

This would be pretty sweet. Mix things up a bit. Potential for a combo set.

I had always assumed that the new irons would be the S55 and they would look very similar to the gorge wedges (just like the last four s series irons and tour wedges). But, given that the gorge wedges have been out for awhile (with no corresponding iron coming out), it seems that this trend may end.

Either way, I'm buying the S55 or the SI blades, or whatever the equivalent is!

It could be he was just making his own prediction.

Or not.

run of the mill driver with stock shaft
a couple of outdated hybrids
shovel-ier shovels
wedges from same shovel company
some putter with a dead insert and

Ping wants everyone to forget about that line of clubs.

I could see that happening. The G25 has moved towards the players side a bit. The Anser irons almost exactly fill the I series specs (reduce the price a bit). It would rationalize their product line, which today now has too much overlap between the lines.

I just spoke to a Ping Cust service Rep in Arizona.

He did not tell me anything definite, but hinted that a new club may be out in the fall. He stated the S56's are over three years old and typically they release clubs sooner than that, so "if something were to be released, it would be in the fall and they are always working on something"

so, we'll see but it aligns with what ive read here with people who are in the know.

Hmm...converging the s and i lines doesn't make sense...even though the i20s are closer to forgiveness and size of the s56s compared to i lines of old.

My main reasoning is that we've already seen the trademark sketches of 2 new irons...which look spookily like the evolutions of the 2 lines.

Yes and that would not be a good thing to reprise. After the successful TISI models they followed them with these awful performing messes (in two sizes made in Australia if I remember correctly)

You know, it wouldn't be terrible if Ping just kept producing S56s. Much like the Eye2 there's little I can imagine one could change as far as a player's cavity back goes that would improve them. I for one would love it if the S56 could take it's place next to the Eye2 as one of the great enduring Ping products.

Not gonna happen.

Be on the lookout for a driving iron called "Rapture" that will debut at The Open... may or may not be released to the public based on demand. Pretty cool club!

Interesting naming choice - reprising the "Rapture" line?

Back lines on the club seem to echo the potential S line drawings that have been floating around.

It would also be unusual for Ping to release something only to tour and not retail. Usually not their MO. Anyone recall any club in the past where they have done this, besides tweaking a club that is out for a pro's preference (ie, less offset, etc).

I think its gonna be called Rapture because of the tech packed into the head-- that line was always their premium high end line. As far as being "tour only" I think its just because its such a niche club and based on its demand I'm sure there will be a release of some kind. This club was designed to be used for one tournament because their tour players were asking for it.

Stay tuned I guess.

If Ping dumps the S line to make a S/i series it might be the biggest mistake they ever make. The S56 has been a staple for for years for the masses. Probably half the guys I play with play the 56's. Dump the i series and make the G series a little more on the players side, the G is already crossing the line into players.
