PING wedge lovers, raise your hands

I wanted to know what other lovers of PING wedges are in the WRX land? I have played three sets of irons over the last four or five years (I've slowed my ho-ing down), two of which were/are forged. One consistent is that my wedges have been PINGs and I have had a love/hate relationship (love their performance, hate they don't look sweet) with them but can't seem to buy other wedges. These things are DURABLE!!! Built like a 1963 Ford, they are made to withstand hitting the rock hiding under your ball, the root that you had no chance of seeing, the sometimes ragged bunkers that might be found on a public course here in Atlanta, etc. On top of that, they produce a great amount of spin, maybe not to the level of a Vokey but definitely noteworthy. I am currently playing the Cobra Amp Cell Pro forged irons and would love to get a nice forged set of wedges or even some soft cast wedges, but I don't know that I won't feel uncomfortable hitting out of trouble with anything other than PINGs.

With that said, are the Anser wedges durable or are they very soft and therefore should avoid being used to hit out of trouble or should I just get some Gorges?

hey juice, I have my first set of ping wedges this year and they are pretty interesting. I ordered the gorge but my ping rep mixed it up and sent me the ansers to match my irons. I like that they have no offset and a nice profile. they feel like vokeys almost. hard to explain, but I played vokeys for the last 4 years and I had an opportunity for a ping package this year and took them up on the irons and wedges. Recently ordered an anser driver to replace my 913. thats another story though. I think you would be pleasantly surprised at the ansers. I shafted mine with px 6.0 (play c taper x in irons) and i love them. I already found a hidden rock in a bunker on a full swing and it barely marked the sole. Very durable, spin is not on the same level as Vokey, but for me they are perfect. I'm not jackin them back 10-15 feet, but they stop where you throw them, and on chipping it is a very consistent result. This makes for minor adjustments, but once you do that they are fine. The grind options are phenomenal as well if you are into that sort of thing (gorge wedges). im playing 50-54-58 right now and highly recommend them.

Agreed. I'm currently "illegal" with my Eye2 BECU SW and Eye2 LW.....didn't care for the XG SW though.

Which would you like to discuss. 1987- Ping Eye2 BeCus. Then around two or three years ago I tried Ping Tour-S I believe. THEN the re-make of Eye2s, the XGs and now Tour Gorge. (Tried Ansers too.) So two sets of clubs-two locations- One has the originals and the other XGs.
Plenty of excellent wedges out there. Me? Ping and Eye2s are the ticket! FWIW Ping had sole grinds on their wedges before anyone was talking about that. Automatic from the sand.

Both hands raised here. I roll with an iWedge for the gap and an Eye 2 XG for the sand wedge. The Eye 2 SW is the greatest wedge ever made and I will always play one. I just know it so well, and it's my go to club in the short game. The iWedge is great from the fairway and works well around the green. It's an awesome gap wedge for sure.

I started playing golf in late 2002 and didn't become a ho for another year (and couldn't afford PING then) so I didn't know about the Eye2 craze but I have fallen for the Tour S wedges I have been playing. I know I need to upgrade soon so I'm thinking about those Ansers since Foxycat mentioned their durability. I'm sure the Gorges are great since they are technically upgrades to the Tour S. I have to admit, I hate the look of the redistributed Eye 2s but I guess I'll have to try them out at the store since so many swear by them.

Played a set of iWedges for years. Moved to Cleveland for half a season, now back to Ping Tour S. for me personally, wedges seem to be pretty similar around the green. It's on the full shots where I prefer Ping.

And you are100% right about the bunkers at the courses around Atlanta. Clay is not sand, although some courses would want you to believe that.

I'm a fan. Started with the i/3 sand wedge that came with my old set, then moved to the Tour w when I changed clubs to G10's. Changed again to G20's and purchased the Tour S, but haven't put it into play as of yet as I still get great performance out of my Tour W. Have since changed to G25's, but the Tour W is a keeper in play for now.

The Ping wedges are a little less than traditional looking on the backside, but they perform well.

I play two anser wedges and love them. Just ordered a set of Tour Gorge wedges to replace them. Or try to anyway!

Looking forward to hearing your comparison! I am in the market for new wedges myself and because of this thread, I'm considering the Ansers.
