Im not sure if they are still there, but Penta TP5 Practice balls from tgw were going for 17.99 a dozen. At one point they went for 14.99 and I ended up buying 14 boxes. Definitely the best bang for the buck imo.

What's wrong with x outs?? I got some and they seem fine? The call away site said they have cosmetic blemishes and nothing more. Am I missing something??
X-Outs have significant physical blemishes like missing dimples and the like if I am correct. Not sure, although you aren't allowed to play Practice golf balls in tournaments so I am not sure now.

I think you can play practice balls in tournaments but you just cant play X- outs from what i recall but i may be wrong too. I have bought both types and usually the physical marks on the ball are extremely small, such as like a small burr in a dimple. Enough not to make quality control standards, but definitely shouldn't effect the performance of the ball.

Usually i have found that they mainly just have issues like bad stamping on occasion or as i said before small burrs. Definitely haven't seen any missing dimples. Balls that are that significantly damaged i am pretty sure they just throw away. They can sell the ones with tiny errors and miss prints because people will buy them. If the balls were so bad they were missing dimples, people wouldnt buy them. Even cheap golfers appreciate a decent ball ha ha

Best ball period for money would be the FG Tour Blemish from BudgetGolf run about $15 a dozen and come in white or yellow.

I agree. They're awesome as it is and even better when you factor in price.

It depends on the company. Callaway for example has it so that the practice balls can be played in tournaments, but x-outs cannot. With Titleist on the other hand all balls can be played (x-outs just have a slightly bigger flaw then the practice). They won't let an illegal ball out of the factory. You can check with the company to see what it is.

The USGA has a rule decision on the subject: http://www.usga.org/...ision-05/#5-1/4
Q.What is the status of 'X-out', 'refurbished' and 'practice' balls?

A.'X-out' is the common name used for a golf ball that a manufacturer considers to be imperfect (usually for aesthetic reasons only, e.g., paint or printing errors) and, therefore, has crossed out the brand name. A 'refurbished' golf ball is a second-hand ball that has been cleaned and stamped as 'refurbished'.

In the absence of strong evidence to suggest that an 'X-out' or 'refurbished' ball does not conform to the Rules, it is permissible for such a ball to be used. However, in a competition where the Committee has adopted the condition that the ball the player plays must be named on the List of Conforming Golf Balls (see Note to Rule 5-1), such a ball may not be used, even if the ball in question (without the X's or without the 'refurbished' stamp) does appear on the List.

In most cases, 'practice' balls are simply listed, conforming golf balls that have been stamped "Practice," in the same way that golf balls often feature a club or company logo. Such balls may be used even where the Committee has adopted the condition that the ball the player plays must be named on the List of Conforming Golf Balls.
Note that Titleist does not actually X-out their brand name on their X-Out balls - they merely stamp them "X-Out" in the same way that they stamp "Practice" on practice balls - and thus the status of such a ball should be, to my understanding, similar to that of a practice ball. (Please note that I am not, however, on the rules committee at your home club, the USGA, or even the local elementary school dodge ball league.)

Pro tip: Do not order customized V1s if your nickname is "Refurbished". Just use your initials.

Let me just toss this in here for those, like me, who are constantly on th elookout for looking for a solid bang for your buck ball. The Maxfli U/3 at $12.50/dz with B1G1 at Dick's is an amazing ball. Scuffs a bit easy, but a phenominal ball for the money.

Saw them for 29 bucks at Dick's and after seeing the golf digest spin reports had to pick up a dozen. Plus they come in yellow which is a huge bonus when your eyesight sucks as bad as mine.
