REVIEW: Callaway Razr Fit Xtreme Driver

Recommended Posts

Tested: Callaway Razr Fit Xtreme Driver 9.5* with Motore Speeder Tour Spec 7.2 Xflex tipped 1/2" 45.5"

About the Callaway Xtreme Razr Fit Driver: Features a Speed Frame Face, Forged composite crown, and Optifit Technology. Head size: 440cc

Pros:

Extremely attractive head shape at address with more adjustability then you know what to do with. The feel and sound match it's stunning looks providing the players with amazing feedback.

Cons:

Not a maximum forgiveness head. You'll need center strikes for this driver to really perform. Also some may be turned off by the amount of adjustability and not knowing how to properly use it.

Bottom Line:

The Callaway Razr Fit Xtreme is a much improved version of the previous offering the Razr Fit. They've managed to lower the COG while improving the head shape dramatically. They've also improved the sound and feel to create a powerful muted sound when struck on the screws. In the end this pear shaped multi adjustable head is perfect for a low to mid handicapper with good ball striking skills. Shaping shots is a no brainer and the optional weight kit is perfect for tinkering with shafts while maintaining swing weight.

The Review:

Looks:

Designed to be classic in both shape and color this head inspires confidence when you look down at it. On the bottom you have the optifit weights pushed further back and to the sides with green paint surrounding the sole. This is an Xtremely good looking driver from top to bottom. The speede frame face is pvd black and blends nicely with the crown. With the all black face and crown the driver almost appear smaller then 440cc which for the better player can be a very good thing..

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Performance:

Coming from the Razr Fit I had high hopes for this driver. Previous generations of Callaway drivers have been bombers and the Xtreme is the new King of the Hill. The Xtreme is an improvement in every way from the previous generation allowing you to further dial in your specs and hit more fairways. I noticed around 400rpms less in spin and 1* higher trajectory then last years Razr Fit with MUCH more workability off the tee. The head shape truly does inspire you to "work" the ball left and right at will. I tend to catch driver high and on the toe on my miss which usually saps distance and accuracy. Luckily with the optiweight system I adjusted the toe weight to help forgive that miss.

The flight of the ball is a perfect mid trajectory low spin bullet. But if wind picks up I could easily work it down or up based on what I was trying to do. Something about the headshape just makes me feel like I can bend the ball at will (which i can't haha) Regardless the club is meant to be worked, it's not meant for straight every shot.

Rating: 4 out 5 stars

Feel:

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. Ok seriously it's that's good. I'm one of those guys that likes a deep muted solid thwack! and the Xtreme has it in spades. I really don't know what else to say other then it's the best feeling driver in golf, period. It feels like a baseball hit with a wooden bat, need i say more

Rating 5 out of 5 stars

Overall:

The Razr Fit Xtreme is a winner if your looking for a workable driver that has classic looks with modern tech. From address it's classic pear shaped black crown while underneath the hood is a roaring 500hp engine waiting to be unleashed. The optifit weights allow you to add some forgivness to your swing flaws while also helping you maintain a swing weight if you like to try different shafts (cough cough golfwrx).

Callaway is back in full force and have clearly created this driver with the better player in mind. If you are a solid ball striker (you don't have to be sergio either) and want a workable driver that has acoustic perfection then the Xtreme is your driver all day every day. From the first time I hit this driver I fell in love but do admit if i'm not swinging well this driver can act up (yeah it's the drivers fault). If your looking for maximum forgivness this isn't your stick but if your like me and like to work the ball left, right,up, and down then the Xtreme is your club.

Overall rating: 4.5 stars

Swan it's as close as it gets to a 5 star. For the right player the clubs is brilliant and top of it's class.

Also if anyone is wondering the pics show a TOUR AD BB shaft as the day I took picks I just happen to have it in the bag to try. Most rounds have been with the Tour Spec which is my new favorite shaft. Love the speeders.

a lot of the adjustable drivers don't open the face like advertised. If set open is this thing open?
[/quote]

1* open at address in the 'S' setting and 3* open in the 'O' setting, you will notice the difference! I like 1* open, so it stays on standard for me.

I have the black tie x flex in mine and think the shaft makes a massive difference. I think this driver is a step forward over the Razr fit before.I have mine set to open and the heavier weight in the toe. I can hit nice little draws with this set up and found my bad swing which normally produce a block has been heavily reduced. Bottom line for me is more fairways and my misses are not as bad,

Sounds like you have it figured out. I think the biggest challenge if there is one is that people need to dial in the head.

The more time with this driver and the more rounds the better and more comfortable I am with it. I am hitting more fairways and my bad swings are limiting how much off track the ball finishes. I think the more time and getting the settings right combined with a new shaft has made a real big difference. I have picked up a few yards now and I am sure i had the wrong shaft and setting in my previous Razr fit and that was costing me distance and accuracy.

very cool i recently dropped a project x 7a3 in mine and i forgot how much i liked that shaft. But your right it's all about the settings with this driver. I still can't get over how good it feels and sounds. Every driver should sound this way.

I find the RFE to be a great driver when I am on...when I am off I find it a little harder to control than others. I am comfortable with the shaft in it (TP6HD) I just find I lack confidence with it when I am not swinging well...with the standard Razr or one of my backups I know if I am swinging bad I can lay it back a little and hit fades to keep me in play, do not have the same feeling or trust with the RFE.
