Local golfer's must play list. What's yours?

Recommended Posts

Every summer my father and I go from playing the standard 4 or 5 courses and play the pricey ones that are now pretty cheap. He asked me the other day what courses I wanted to play and couldn't think of the list off the top of my head. I started to make it but would like your help.

Played this year:

Southern Dunes

Boulders South/North

Los Caballeros

Raven at Verrado

The Raven (Phoenix)

Legacy

Most that would be on the list I have played in the past. I'm trying to play new ones or classics

Wants:

Wekopa cholla

Wekopa saguaro

Tpc champions

Quintero

Silver creek (Show Low)

Apache stronghold - midsummer Bermuda

Gold canyon dinosaur

Gray hawk

Conner,

I can't think of many others to add, maybe some outside of the valley including the rim in Payson, talking rock in Prescott, hasyampah in Prescott, elephant rock in Williams, and torreon in show low as well?

I'd still like to play verrado and I've yet to play Wekopa cholla. Haven't played troon and probably won't since its more desert golf haha.

Have you played copper canyon or vista verde?

When I think of must play I can really only think of a select few courses in town to play. Ones I leave off are not necessarily bad but may not offer up anything distinctly better or different than the ones I mention.

1: Wekopa Saguaro
2: Southern Dunes (in proper condition firm fast and sand in the bunkers)
3: Boulders South. Short but such a unique setting
4: Grayhawk Raptor (combined with food/drinks at Izabellas on site) such a great atmosphere up there
5: Vista Verde (up until all the housing starts being built)
6: Dove Mountain
7: Gallery Club ( I have yet to play but have seen enough to know it is warranted)
8: Troon Pinnacle(for the first time in a while I really dont have much desire to go back out there)

If you ever have the chance, play Mirabel. It's the nicest golf course (condition wise) I've ever played and the amenities are outrageous.

We-Ko-Pa is great -- I prefer Saguaro, both courses at Grayhawk, and TPC Champions for the challenge.

I'd love to play Mirabel but I'm not sure I can afford their membership haha!

Blake, just call and ask for a tour of the facilities and a round of golf and use of the spa for the day because you are interested in membership. You may have to listen to a long shpiel and walk around for a few hours...but will be worth it.

my shortened must list is:

Flag Ranch
Quintero
Grayhawk Raptor
TPC Champions
Dove Mountain
Legacy
DC Ranch
Whisper Rock
Legend Trail

I've played all but Flag Ranch this year, and will be up there next weekend. Those round out my favorites...Im sure once I get out to We-Ko-Pa, it will make the list...unless they serve koolaid on #1 to all of you who rave about it ;)

Played Saguaro at Wekopa with One Putt the last two wednesday's. I don't see how anyone could not love that course. So good. Also the Kool-aid is delicious.

i've played most of the az courses but these two are the last i want to check off my list..

forest highlands
flagstaff ranch

so far the best course i've played in az (or maybe anywhere) is pine canyon...

I've played both and enjoyed Flagstaff Ranch more than the Meadows course at Forest Highlands. Still really wanna play the canyon course or whatever it's called at Forest Highlands.

I agree...I have played all three and my order would be FH Canyon, Flag Ranch, FH Meadows. After this coming weekend, I imagine Pine Canyon will take the #1 or #2 spot of that mix.

$37 for Dove Mountain, think ill be taking a trip there next week!

Ya its dirt cheap right now. It was $48 Saturday morning at 8:25am. Highlands is always cheap which is the course next door. Getting some really good reviews lately: http://azstarnet.com/sports/golf/professional/greg-hansen-ailing-golf-courses-can-learn-from-highlands/article_60b2fce4-de90-504b-980e-e72917e6c527.html
