As much as I hate that course (no politics involved) and have vowed to never play it again, I'm dying to get out and might just pull the trigger.  Conditions are always good but the layout is just awful - so tight and penal for drives that are 5-10 yds off line.  Glad you enjoyed it and finished up strong.

I agree.  I dread every time I play there.  That's why I go back there for redemption.

It was between 50f and 65f through the day.

Glen Gorse Golf Club in Leicestershire played yesterday. Lovely quiet traditional golf club, not overly long but the undulating fairways gave it a difficulty spike. For only £25 per person to play it's an absolute bargain.

No golf for me today but here's the clubhouse and first hole at Royal Troon. The photo doesn't do it justice with the number of bunkers and placement. Grim and very rainy day. Members still out enjoying the course.

We had a 40 minute frost delay today in the Chicago suburbs, but the sun was out, and it got into the low 40's by the end of the round. I had ear muffs on for the first few holes.

Course was in fantastic shape and the fall colors were starting to really pop. At $35 w / cart this place is always a steal.

Another couple of courses I've visited this last week but haven't played. The first photo is the 1st at Isle of Barra GC in the Outer Hebrides. They're a series of islands off the North West coast of Scotland with brutal virtually tree-less landscapes due to the North Atlantic wind. Gorgeous place to visit with some stunning beaches. It's a 210 yd hole downhill. On the day it was into a 30 mph headwind. Not an easy opener!

 

Second photo is the 9th. All the greens are rectangular with solar powered electric fences. Nice little 9 hole ccourse. The course is on common land that can be used by anyone for grazing of their cattle.

 

Third, fourth and fifth photos are from Askernish. Didn't manage to make it to the more interesting holes through the dunes but glad I made the trip to this Old Tom Morris designed course.
