When is Taylor Made going to stop?

victor10

Recommended Posts

I don't know why anyone would buy new Taylor Made equipment. I just saw that they are coming out with another new driver. I think that is 6 new models in the last year. I bought a new TM 3 wood that I paid over $200 for new. Within 2 months they came out with another model. The same with the hybrids!

I will NEVER buy another TM product again!

What is your opinion?

Titleist is my favorite company and I absolutely love how them and Ping don't really really new lines every single year. It keeps me anticipated and let's me build the funds to afford their new stuff. Never been a fan of Taylormade and never will.

I understand your point and it would bother me too. It's quite annoying when you buy the newest driver only to find out they had plans to replace it with something they obviously think is better mere weeks later.

Everyone can say "does it stop working" and "don't be bothered by it", but it just is something that will annoy you.
If a car manufacturer has a new model lined up, you know it's coming. That's not a reasonable comparison. :) If you buy a car and a few weeks later the 3.0 V6 is not 220HP, but 245HP.. That's more like it I think.

Slapping the ball around a bit, having loads of fun.

But you knew taylormade was gonna have a new one in 3 months when you bought it. If you didn't know because they kept people in the dark or something then sure, there's an axe to grind, but you did know and bought it anyway.

Seems like sour grapes to me.

My opinion is that your analysis is about 6 years late and overdone. If you like it buy it. It's not like this is a new strategy for TM

I'm glad they do this, it allows me to hit new stuff all the time, find the one that beats it the furthest or purest and buy it 3 months later at a discounted rate. A brand new Stage 2 driver will be mine for ~$150 hopefully within 3 months. Maybe sooner if I buy it gently used here on GolfWRX (Thanks club hoes).

Play with what you like, not with what their marketing team brainwashes you with. Also, stay informed and read articles like this to know when "newest" isn't always the "furthest" or "longest of all time" : http://www.golfwrx.com/112824/case-5589-the-campaign-for-the-longest-driver-in-golf/

My $.02 (thanks, just set me back on saving for the aforementioned driver)

Are you mad at Callaway too? Obviously you buy clubs for the status or perceived status you gain from other people. If you love a driver or set of irons it shouldn't matter what you paid for them, because you can't put a price on something you really like and possibly hit well. That being said I'm on staff with TaylorMade and have played with my MC's since they were released, just switched over to the R1 from that two year old dinosaur the R11 and still play my original R11 4 wood. My point being if someone who receives "free" (even though its not really free for me) equipment doesn't change equipment why do you feel the need to have the latest and greatest. Do you believe that the newer equipment is leaps and bounds superior to last years....

I agree. My current setup is mostly TM and it's starting to bother me how often they rollout new stuff. I guess as long as it performs who cares, right? I have to say that their products IMO are superior to everything else. I demo clubs on a regular basis and always end up with TM.

Unless you're new to equipment, this has been TM's standard M.O. for years. It doesn't mean you have to agree with it, but if you think it's going to end soon, you're naive.

Prior to this bag, I've always had TM woods/drivers (200 series, 320 driver, V-Steel, r7) and they've been great performing clubs. After 5 years with th r7 425, I thought it was time for a change and jumped brands. It doesn't mean I won't go back.

But, if you're hoping to buy clubs new and then flip them without taking much of a beating, TM is probably not the best route to go.

I see your point and understand your frustration, but I agree with a lot of what has been said above. I happen to be one of those guys that always wants the latest model, so it can get expensive chasing TM or perhaps now Callaway. When I get a new driver, I always believe it is an upgrade, but when I look back 4 drivers ago, I am not hitting it any further than I was, or any more consistent. Maybe it is time for you and I to stop chasing the latest driver and keep what we have for a few seasons.

They keep making drivers longer too. Average golfers don't need 46.5 inch drivers.

Yao Ming? Nevermind, his PW is probably longer than that.

To the OP and his supporters - how often would you like OEM's to bring out new models? Every year, two years, five years?

Granted, there are those who buy the latest model of clubs, cars, cell phones, etc., but companies also want to attract new consumers as well.

Shorter life-cycles for products seems to be the way it is right now. To not buy from a company that has frequent new-product introductions seems a bit rash.

I'd "like" them to come out with a new design every time they make a legitimate improvement. I "accept" that they'll also come out with a new design from a fashion perspective.

And I also accept the awesome responsibility of figuring out (or guessing) which is which . . .
