There's a video on YouTube somewhere where Tiger said that butch made him "feel" this in a drill in order to prevent him from getting so stuck, but his lower body was still obviously starting the swing, he just felt that his arms were. Im starting to learn that i have to feel the same thing or I have no chance in hell, but that's not what actually happens. Everyone's going to feel something different.

He has a flip release and a slight chicken wing. If he was an unknown person and you post this swing here this guy would be considered unable to play this game.

When I learned to play that malady didn’t exist yet. Now even Nicklaus is diagnosed in retrospect.  Good nobody told him back then or they may have screwed his career LOL.

He probably has an active lower body and needs to feel his arms start first so they don't get too far behind. Not how the sequence happens though.

Like any throwing action, when you want to throw the club from the top, your body will brace itself automatically. It will always show up in a video as the hips firing first, but it is always with the intent of simply throwing the forearm down and out on the plane angle. You feel like it starts with your arms because it does. The left side bracing and clearing is a reaction to your intent, not an action causing it. With the proper flying wedge, triangle, shoulder girdle etc... Try to throw the forearm down and out behind your back foot from the top of the backswing. Your girdle will have cleared your target side by the time the trail arm straightens. On video it looks like all the classic sequence instruction, but the reality is, all you did was try and karate chop the club head into the ground behind you.

My instructor thinks conscious lower body movements to starts downswings is no good. He tells me the lower body moves to stay balanced , then it woulds *fire* when times to release everythings. So sequences ands what one is doings are also nots always the reality. My hips clear , but never once do i evens think of them movings.

So , if lower body *moves* to keeps body in balance , but downswings is started with arms falling , i woulds believes the person is starting with the arms , nots lower body. *Real* to me does nots always mean it is really *real* .

He gots me to feel likes my swings is more arms thans lower body. Controls ands great strikes of balls followed.

bringing up an old thread, was looking at this video of Louis swing yesterday. I have always looked at his swing and tried to emulate certain positions. He early extends a good amount in this swing but I always thought his strength was how he loads the club on the backswing and his tempo. He is also hitting a 7 iron on a 211 par 3 and he is my size, 5'10" 170.

Kinda like what Monte said, I'd say.... everyone needs different feels to make things right for them individually

If you're on intimate terms with your swing then you can find the tiny little nugget that makes a big difference,  but its so subtle sometimes saying out loud might not even make sense to anyone else lol

I try and like my own posts but can't figure out how...

I think it's more because his butt is just too far back at address. He could probably tuck his butt in more at address and you wouldn't notice an early extension. But he's probably more comfortable at address the way he is.

nah, his address is fine. I'm not going to pretend to fix Oosthuizen swing, Jack had some EE too. He is doing just fine on tour, there is an argument it would be better for his back to keep it back though.

@Redjeep83 or someone else please explain to me how Louis "early extends a good amount" in that swing?

yea he is 100% starting the downswing with the hips.  I am not an instructor but I believe this is the most difficult move to master. Brandel Chamblee says this is the #1 thing separating Pros from Ams, proper sequencing. anyone have a drill or two about using hips on downswing?

I’ve measured over a hundred in 3D and AMG is likely well into four digits.  No one has ever started with the arms.  NOT ONE.  The overwhelming majority the arms are late.

There is no drill, you have to address the individual issue(s) at hand.

I don't know how it's possible to swing anything held in your hands without your sole thought being anything other then hands and arms. Am I supposed to think about my legs? Doesn't that just happen on its own.

I can't coordinate feet, calves, thigh, hips, back, shoulders, arms, hands in the 1 second it takes me to swing. Crazy.
