LIVE CHAT / GIVEAWAY: True Temper on DG Pro, Thursday, July 18 at NOON ET

Hi there Greg,

I play R300 Dynamic Golds currently, primarily because I've always loved the feel of DGs but I'm a firm believer in using the softest shaft you can easily control. I've been fitted for S300 / S400 in the past and whilst I'm comfortable enough with the stiffer shaft; I find it difficult to consistently flight out of the rough or from bad lies. I've never tried soft-stepping, but this is something I'd be interested in..

I play predominantly in East Lothian in Scotland, so I play a lot of golf in windy conditions and being able to control flight in the wind is really important to me. I'm UK 6 handicap with a smooth tempo and I carry a 7 iron about 160.

Could you recommend a DG Pro set up (flex, soft / hard step etc.) for me and how do you expect the new shaft to perform in the wind?

Many thanks for taking the time.

Greg Templeton

Different shaft profiles respond differently to different swings, generally speaking, is what people always say. How have you ensured that the varying butt to tip profiles within the DG Pro sets are different enough to impact performance, yet still remain playable/optimal for a specific player? If I'm a player who typically does well from top to bottom of the bag with a profile like DG X100, how will I be sure that the long iron shafts in the DG Pro set will really help me? (I'm on the verge of soft stepping my long irons). I'm sure this has been considered, but I'd like to understand the process and explanation behind the science. Thanks for answering our questions.

I like the concept of promoting higher ball flight in the long irons with softer tips, and stiff butt sections and extending that design characteristic throughout the set to the lower ball flight in the short irons.

I am playing the Project X PXI 6.0, and they are about 112g. What weight shafts are these and which stiffness would work for me?

Thanks to TT Greg for taking the time,
BB

I play Ping S57, blue dot +-1 degree upright, DG S300, D2.

The 4 iron has always been a struggle to get the correct flight. The basic feeling is that I have to put a more aggressive swing on the club to get the shaft to flex properly and launch at a decent angle.

If I want to replace the shaft in just the 4 iron of my set in order to get a slightly higher ball flight and still maintain the playing characteristics of the rest of my irons, which DG shaft do you recommend?

Greg,

Exactly what kind of testing was done with these to prove they can dramatically improve one's desired ball flight with the long irons? Is there any kind of data that can help show this is what they achieve? Is the fitting process for these any different than past shafts?

It'll be interesting to learn more about these! Thanks again Greg!

I would echo the questions regarding how they compare to the recently-phased-out Project X Flighted shafts (I can see the new product has a stepped pattern, but other than that).

Also, what are the exact flex and weight profiles that will be offered? Will it be like the Dynamic Gold (R300, S2/3/400, X100) or more like Project X (4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, etc.) and KBS Tour (R, R+, S, S+, X)?

Thanks!

These DG Pro's seem like the holy grail of launch controlled shafts..

Love working on my own clubs. Are these shafts available over the counter though Performance Fitting Centers? How do I go about getting a set?

Were you able to maintain a similar feel within a set with such differing flight characteristics between the individual shafts?

I swing my 7 iron 80-85 mph and usually average about 180-185. And have a pretty quick swing right know I'm using KBS tour Extra stiff shafts but see inconsistencies in ball flight from shot to shot. How do the DG Pro shafts change keep flight consistent?

What are the differences between the DG Tour Issue X100 and DG PRO X100?

Much has been said about the ideal launch the tour pros are requesting from the long irons. These shafts seem to address this. However it is mention in the description that this is due in part to the particular launch characteristics of the modern tour ball. What about golf balls being used by the recreational player? What effect will these have on a lower compression ball for the higher handicap player? Say a titleist velocity or even a noodle.

These sound like a great concept for an iron Shaft.

What type of player will benefit most from this tednology design, average swing speed of say mid 80's for a 6 iron or faster speed say in the 90's?

Or will they both benefit in different ways.

Thanks.

Q1 The weight tolerance in the Pros, as tight as the DG Tour Issues?
Q2.over length, +.5" since the butt stiffness is improved, is there a more consistent CPM in over length builds as your get longer than .5" , .75" etc. Performace wise, comparable to px, which bc of the butt stiff profile, gets strong as you increase the length.

Thanks and its appreciated that you take the time to make yourselves available to the "toughest" golf community on the net.

How does your progressive step design compare to a continuous taper design in regards to feel and flight characteristics? Will each club flight the same?

Thanks for never saying you are good enough as you continue to evolve with new products.

participating in the blind testing - it is interesting reading what the shaft "really" is about. funny how it raises questions :) the question has been asked but where does this fall in the product line - PX through DG (tour offerings such as Monaco and TC included). i am still surprised to the overall balance of the shaft.

How is the testing done? Is it all human testing or other means of testing, ie: machine testing? What are the variables for replicating performance in various conditions? And are side by side test done using competitors brand shafts?

Another question: When production begins, how do you determine the shaft characteristics of a new release (high launch, low launch etc. etc.)? Do tour players give feedback on what they want? Is it from customer reviews and feedback? Both?

Greg,

1. Why was this shaft designed, was it in response to overall iron head design changes, or in response to how the golf ball has changed?
2. Can you go in to detail about the design process and R&D for the DG Pros, for example how long were these in conception/design, and testing?
3. What is different about the manufacturing process from other DG shafts?
