James Patrick joins Titleist

Recommended Posts

I have not read through every post, but remember, Titlleist had a forged line of wedges. i think done by Larry Bobka, who in the 90's was the guy who did Titleist tour work. and although limited were not widely popular, even with the "pro" specific grinds and shapes.

The wedges he will make now for Titleist will just be a watered down mass produced version of what he did before he joined, sure they may have some funky looking design on them?, but they won't be a patch on the custom made ones. Because it will be like comparing a fake Rolex you buy in a Hong Kong market to the real thing, because they may look the same at a glance but they are not, so I will take pass on them when they become available to the general public

What the f*** is wrong with the Hong Kong market? Have you been to Hong Kong?

C'mon and share! Titleist said you can share the info since they let you know. It's part of their viral marketing. No secret stays a secret.

I cannot wait to see what JP does with Titleist wedges. I wonder if Titleist will tell JP to keep it conservative like the current vokey line?
If they aren't going to let him do his thing, why would they hire him in the first place? One would think that titleist would let him use his skills and style. The question is will anything JP releases under titleist be available in North America. I'm guessing the answer is no.

I agree, his line will probably be available overseas initially. I'm looking forward to see JP and his flare in some forged Titleist wedges!

Why do you guys think Titleist wouldn't release JP wedges along with their current line? There are already different variations in the Vokey line with the standard off the rack wedge and the Wedgeworks line. Releasing a JP line would broaden Titleist's reach and may grab a segment of the market that the Vokeys just don't attract.

Titleist gives JP the ability to reach and market to a much larger customer base than before. Its a win win for both companies. Titleist can offer more of their classic Vokey wedges while also offering the more radical wedges that JP is producing.

I don't think the JP wedges would cannibalize too much of the current Vokey line as they are distinctly different products.

I wish they would do the JP/Vokey/Cameron type thing with metal woods... Hire a name, build him a studio and offer custom woods with exact specs, sounds, weight tuning, coloring etc.

I'm looking forward to see what comes from JP now that he is in the Titleist fold. I've never had a chance to try any of JP's wedges but from a visual aspect, I really like the work he has done.

Aren't tungsten plugs a way to correct a design flaw (or design preference) and move the COG towards the actual center of the club?

I mean, you're moving weight out from the heel side towards the toe to the actual center. Why not design the correct COG? And if moving weight out moves the center towards the actual center of the club, doesn't that mean you ought to move the grooves? See Edel.
The aggressive heel and toe grind, as well as the thinned out hosel lead to a loss of mass which is recentered by the tungsten weights, and this may give you some info on your edel query http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/538047-finding-their-groove-edel-golfs-new-wedge-and-the-james-patrick-controversy/

Is he replacing Vokey? Why doesn't he just use Vokey's space? Although I'd prefer a new space also.

He's not replacing Vokey. He will be doing a speciality line of wedges for the Asian market (Japan & Korea).

ahh. Now we are getting some info. So it's not likely we'll see a JP/Titleist retail line at Dick's.
