Idaho Falls anyone?

It is a bit preemptive but once I graduate Respiratory Therapy school I am looking to try and move out to Idaho Falls. Was just curious to see if anyone lives in the area and what it was like.

Ehhhh.... Have fun.

I live in Boise on the west side of the state... I've spent probably a year of total time in the last 6 years working out of the Idaho Falls office... I've been all over the place out there...

It's frigid in the winter time... Frigid. Winter lasts a little longer... Golf season is roughly April-September... And its windy as hell all the time... ALL the time..

Summer time isn't bad... Doesn't get super hot... More mild that my side of the state.

Nothing too social depending on what your looking for... As weird as this sounds... Tough to give you an idea of the area without knowing a few things about you..

The east side of Idaho is heavily religious.. Couple of heavy LDS college campuses out there... BYU Idaho is over there...


Golf courses are mediocre... The city course in IF is tight but manageable... Most of the golf out there is flat... Haven't played a course I would call challenging and unless its winter I take my clubs everywhere...personally think the golf is seriously lacking... Course in Rigby is interesting... Jackson Hole, Wyoming is a short car ride... Bout 90 minutes and golf and skiing is awesome up there... But it's a nasty drive in the winter and its filled with yuppies.

Housing is actually a touch more expensive that Boise which is odd as we are definately the population center for the state... Pocatello is 45 mins away to the south... ISU is there... Decent college town... Little more rowdy than IF... But super easy commute either way... Going to or going from Pokie...

Boise has definitely moved up to one of the top of my list, along with Billings Mt.

only canadian I got are my hunting boots and my work boots. Ironically both happen to be Danner Canadians.
Now c'mon...how cool is that.

Played a lot of rounds of golf in them during the colder months, paired 'em with my woolrich overalls to boot.

Thats why I know Ive never played with a fellow wrx'er, but how cool would that be for him..?

I'm in Driggs, ID, and the golf is decent here, but the season short.
Would be tougher living here if I wasn't married.
Skiing is what brought me to the area.
Met my wife on Teton Pass...

Driggs/Victor (area is collectively known as Teton Valley) is great.

There is a lot of golf in the valley, albeit with a shorter season.

Links at Teton Peaks (great muni, links, fun layout, dog friendly)
The Reserve (public, nice Hale Irwin layout...design was intended to be reversible, but lack of funds nixed that, great practice facilities)
Teton Springs (semi-private, if private, has reciprocal agreement with Teton Pines in Jackson, WY)
Huntsman Springs (full-on private, need connections to get on)

Planning to get out later this week again

Played 32 holes.
$25 w/ cart for first 18, and a replay rate for $9 (got 14 more in)

Awesome, so there is hope for playing a full season of golf. When does the courses usually open for the first rounds?

This year my first round was may 31, but courses were playable well before that, late April/early May.
My transitions between golf and skiing are tough.
During ski season, it hard for me to focus on golf (went to Shasta in california for a memorial weekend climb/ski).
At the end of the golf season, I just wanna keep on golfing, and I'm slow to switch.

All depends on the snow and the weather.

Get the golf course numbers and start calling around at the middle to end of April.

Grand Targhee ski resort normally closes April 15 or 22 (second or third week of April).
While Jackson Hole mtn resort (aka The Village) closes the first week of April.
