The Proto 33 is a 33 compression ball. Supposedly feels just like a premium ball off every club and goes farther.

It looks like they are trying to compete with the Wilson Staff [s]DUO [/s]Wiffle ball.

I fixed that for you...... 33 compression...haha

I play Prov1x and lethal and the DUO is one badass winter ball.

+1 I played the Duo for a day or 2 in Myrtle Beach last November. Everything about golf in 50* weather is a compromise. Good ball.

Can someone explain the concept of a winter ball to me? I lived in Florida until recently and never had to deal with cold weather golf. Having moved to Virginia this past summer, I need to figure it out soon.

Hey it looks like we live fairly close to one another. I'm in Bon Air (in Midlothian). and work part-time at Providence.

Anyway, when its cold outside (below 50 degrees) its best to play a low compression ball. The cold weather makes the golf ball harder and more difficult to compress, especially the higher compression tour balls.

Totally agree. When the temps get in the 50's, it is easy to lose a club/club and a half in distance. The lower compression balls, Noodle, Duo, Lady Precept make up for some of that loss.

Never minding the fact that this time of the year when the temperatures start dipping, it usually also means leaves will cover the ground and that ground will be so soft that it will swallow up any ball hit above the height of a grown man. The cheapest balls in the world will stick to the greens on a wedge approach (and you will probably need a back hoe to remove it from the green). Also, when it gets cold enough to harden up the soft greens, a pitch shot with a nerf ball wouldn't check up. Basically, there's no point in using a tour level ball. In my mind, performance has nothing to do with it (though performance is definitely affected, as others have said). For me, the fact that you lose balls with such regularity this time of the year, I just stockpile my "found" balls throughout the season in a 5 gallon bucket and throw a hand full in the bag when I leave to play. That way I don't worry too much about looking for a ball more than a minute or two and just drop one and invoke the "leaf rule". I don't have the means to lose $4 a pop balls playing in this crap (but I am so obsessed that I still find some joy in playing in this crap).

*edit- not saying the other guys are wrong, because they absolutely aren't. Just offering other reasons to not play the good stuff this time of the year. For me it is just as much a financial reason as a performance one.

I hadn't heard anything until yesterday when a buddy of mine with knowledge of upcoming product mentioned that they were excited about the new MC style irons coming out. Mentioned about the blades as well and how great they looked. Didn't give anymore information and I wasn't going to push for anymore.

TM guy was pushing the new MB about to come out. He knows I like a simple look so we'll see. Says they are focusing on the players irons in 2014 with the MB, CB, and half cavity. Won't have me changing, but I will at least give them a swing.

you can ask the same question every few months about Taylor Made. They constantly roll out new clubs, rendering clubs bought even 2 years ago seem like dinosaurs.

I have respect for their clubs. I rented a set while traveling once and was blown away by how easy it was to hit them - from driver right through to wedges. However, I absolutely detest their marketing with the frequency they put out new clubs and for me, that is my reason why I never have and never will buy Taylor Made clubs.

I happen to love my Pings and have played Ping all my golfing life (over 30 years, playing only my 3rd set of irons, which I just got earlier this year). Quality clubs. The original cavity back makers, range of forgiveness in club set, etc. Point is, I am happy with my set and always realising it is the indian and not the arrow, if I have an issue, I try fixing my swing rather than buy new clubs.

I am sure whatever new clubs they come out with will be fantastic and millions will buy them and be happy.

The ones I rented were, I think Rocketballz. Even my buddy who was a member of the club I was playing said he never saw someone hit it so far not eh 1st hole as I did that day and I did it with out putting any effort at all. Driver - wedge to a par 5. If I could get my head away for my thoughts about their marketing, I would have gone straight to a store that day to buy a set.

MB, MC, and CB forged irons will get the Rocketblades speed slot on the bottom.

I seen the early prototype MB for the upcoming line and it did not have a slot on the bottom.

For those in the know can you give a little more info on the CB line? In the last series TM had 2 irons that were similar but just tweaked a little differently. The CB and the R11 irons. They looked similar but hitting them was a drastically different experience for me. I'm hoping the new CB line leans towards the R11 side. The RBZ Tours never did anything for me and I'm assuming any Tour version of the Speedblade won't either. If the CB leans more towards the Players Iron category then I'll just find a set of used R11 irons.

If you are referring to the TP line vs. the R11, the TP line was forged and the R11 was cast

Yes, the TP logo is on their shafts which is why it makes 0 sense on what they are doing.

yea, must be something else then. If corvette is making a big deal about the logo, they wouldnt be able to use it at all for anything. Plus it probably would of happened when they first started using the logo a long time ago. Something like this doesnt just happen at the last moment, Im sure the logo had to go through some legal process before it was even brought out and used for years

You should re-read your post. You go in a lot of different directions trying to justfy not using some clubs that seem to work extremely well .
Arrows and indians, played one company's irons for 30 yrs although, other clubs can be someone else (just not TM) and so on. Now if you can't afford them at this time then that would understandable. If a dislike of a company's marketing is the reason than you might have other issues that may be deeper seeded. The beauty of TM's product changes is that it allows many smart people to pick up one or two generations older than the current for very reasonable prices! What is wrong with that? Actually it is a reason TM has grown into the "400 lb gorilla" of the golf business. Many, many people would rather buy last years quality set (often new) discounted for $399-$499 than spend $899 + for some of the other new sets of various brands. I think you need to get over it. Remember there are a lot of really good accomplished golfers who make changes to find the next level of performance so that they don't get surpassed by others that they play with or against. I am a plus hdcp (below scratch) and I am always open to improving. We all need to. As we get older we need to make sure we are playing with what will work the best if we care about the quality of our play. I am a better player today than I was when I played in college. I still have many of the clubs I have played with since high school (yes well over 1000 clubs). While it can be fun to pull out a set of irons or drivers, putters and wedges that I played at different periods over the past few decades, one can really understand how equipment has improved. Sometimes I wonder how I could have won a certain tournament or how did I shoot that great score with these clubs? The only clubs I could play with today are the wedges.
Equipment makes a difference talk to the Champions Tour players where endorsement money is much thinner than on the PGA Tour. Many of these guys play pretty mixed sets and they are all hitting the ball further and straighter than they did in their prime years on Tour.
