Could/Would CB, GI or SGi irons Turn Tiger Back into the Tiger of old?

Just curious as to what everyone else thinks on the subject? Would today's GI/SGI technology improve Tigers game over the tiny blades he's played for years? Could it be the difference maker to outing him back out in front of the pack the way he used to be or would it make no difference? What do you think?

I am guessing you mean in the Majors since he won 5 times with his shiny blades. And in the Majors, his ball striking has not been the problem.

What would help him is not being Tiger Woods for a week during the majors.

Also, I believe it to be a myth that a GI iron will make you automatically a better ball striker. Just like you have to be scratch to hit blades. If it fits your swing, you can hit it; if it doesn't, you can't.

Tiger needs to throw his driver away and hit his 3W off all tees. Tiger is one of the, if not the best, iron players in the world. Blades are fine.

No It's the putter. His driver had always been the way it is,,,, sometimes its on and sometimes it's off. Tiger hit 16/18 green in round 2 and missed like 2 fairways. He didn't make a putt he had 29 putts. When Tiger was dominating he made every putt he looked at or so it appeared that way. He would have been right in the mix again this week if the putter worked in round 2. His irons are the least of his problems.

I don't know if it's just the putter per se. It's a huge reason, but on those loose iron shots that happen so often, the cavity, even the smallest one would bail him out, as it would any golfer. Him using the driver on Friday was scary. He was a fairway machine. But that's why cavities are made when you're a little off.

I heard that at one time Tiger was testing the Pro Combos (when the newest model was first hitting the shelves). But he obviously chose to keep the blades.

How many majors would Tiger have if he played Titleist or Ping gear? My guess is 20 already.............. This is where the difference lies

I agree that his putter seems to be his biggest problem, but his proximity to the hole on his iron shots didn't look too good today either. When the course is soft and everyone in the field is making birdies then you need to stick it close and make the putt.

one of the best iron players ever perhaps IMO. certainly not the irons. driving problems and putting problems. also makes a few too many mistakes chipping these days too. don't remember him leaving too many flop shots 40 feet short when he was a major winning machine. tries to get too cute with it at times I think. overall I think once he figures out some things with the driver and putter hell get back on track at the majors; or at least I hope so.

Perimeter weighting can help save some distance and direction on mishits and weight lower can help hit the ball higher.

Tiger doesn't hit bad shots due to mishits and he doesn't need help low on the club head.

A few years back there were rumors of a set if Titleist 681 blades that were actually used by Tiger cing up for sale in an auction.

The one pic I clearly remember is a face shot of one of his irons. It had a perfectly round wear spot inthe center of the club face that looked to be the size of a dime, maybe larger.

Now those iron were used at the height of his dominance but I'd be willing to bet an amount of money that matters to me that if you looked at his irons today, there would be a similar wear spot. I'm just guessing though, he has only won 5 times this year.

What exactly would he gain from a switch? He rarely mishits his irons, and he would only be giving up shot shaping ability. Confidence would turn him back into Tiger of old.

Tiger is one of two of the best to ever play the game. He knows his game better than anybody and its funny when analysts think Tiger should be doing this and that. Just by waking up on the wrong side of bed might determine if he has his A' game for the day. Suggesting Tiger use SGI=Picasso to use Microsoft paint

CB's, GI's, and SGI's have no where near the amount of maneuverability he demands from his irons. It would hurt more than help due to him hitting straight balls everywhere.

Tiger's misses with irons are not like outright chunks and toe or heel hits that end up short...he's off on distance or hits the wrong shape. And the driver - but he's already playing a cavity back there.

The guy can still rip that tiny blade 3i from 240 to a tucked pin just as well as anyone on the planet. Center face contact is not his issue, major or non major.
