One-off for someone I am sure. Looks sub 460cc. 9.5* loft only.

Cool, thanks for the update. Thought it was rare of Titleist to mix things up so soon after a release.

Here is the info I have received from my contact about the new Titleist DOT drivers:

the dot driver has significantly forward CG. I know for a fact Dufner has been testing it extensively, and will have it in play nearly immediately. (I saw his Trackman testing session. Spin was WAY down.) Titleist has the same theory on weight that TM has--the forward CG is optimum, and the MOI, while lowered, is still above the "diminishing returns" line. Meaning that while the MOI is down, it is still above the number where someone sees real world difference. Anything higher is wasted.

can we expect Titleist to offer a newer model with the forward CG to retail in the near future..it just seems we are heading towards a R&D war with the major players. There goes the two year cycle on clubs that Titleist was noted for..

I wonder why they didn't move the swing weight pad closer to the face like the Fd and Hd? I guess it was just easier to use their existing mold and modify it slightly to achieve the more forward CoG. Plus, they probably don't want the perception that Titleist staffers are hitting something that is not available to the public such as what happens with other OEM's.

Please don't take this post as me challenging what you're saying. I agree and believe everything posted. I just think it would be cool to see a 913Dd low spin version of the D2 with the pad closer to the face.

I guess there are more than one way to skin a cat.

what about a D3 in 8.5 titleist???

This is a one-off for someone on tour. They already offer the D3 in 7.5 & 8.5

Highly doubt Titleist will be diverting from their two year product cycle any time soon. This is a one-off, not for mass consumption.

... Yet, if TaylorMade did this, you would see 20 pages crucifying them for "deceptive business practices" and "smoke and mirrors advertising", and calling them no good liars. Just proves the point that ALL OEM make specialty clubs for some of the tour guys for a perfect fit, and us mere mortals have to make due with a "best fit" of head and shaft, which is terrible as you know it is the end of the world if someone on GolfWRX only gets a 350yd drive when they could have a 352yd drive by having a tour only club.

Glad to see that this has been brought to the public eye though, and hope people finally realize that this is not going to hurt TM or Titleist sales one bit, and if guys spent half the time that they do on these witch hunts against OEMs on the range practicing, they would see more results

I totally understand and I really appreciate you posting the info. Without guys like you, this site would be void of any inside intel.

I was just thinking out loud more so than anything. I didn't want you to think I was being an A-hole. I know you have legit sources.

What do you think about my idea moving the swing weight forward closer to the face? It's possibly something we could see in the 915 woods. I don't think the forward CoG tech will see retail until next product cycle.

Am I the only one really interested in the 588 Custom? From my experience with Cleveland drivers, this one will be a winner. For some reason, the good ones are usually every other year with meh clubs in between - Launcher Comp (Good), Hibore (meh), Hibore XL/XL Tour (Legendary), Hibore XLS (meh), 09 Launcher (Good), XL270/SL290/TL310 (ok), Classic 270/290/310 (Another Legendary club), Classic XL (no real improvement). You can see it on tour too. Guys will stick with many year old Cleveland drivers while other OEM players usually switch to whatever's new. If it's any better than my 290, it's going to be a BEAST. Bring it Cleveland!

Im looking forward to the new 913 DOT driver..the other reason why I haven't switched over to the 913, and I love my 910 to much right now. Do they have a exact release date on it? I keep hearing toward the end of next year.

Exactly. Not sure why everyone is reaching for the pitchforks on this one.

Mainly because people grab their pitchforks before heading into a TM thread.

I agree, if this were a TM SLDR DOT head thread, it'd be 15 pages long with posts stating the SLDR was such garbage a DOT head came out for the tour players.

I think everyone knows that all companies have prototypes or specials, where TM gets themselves in trouble with the "masses" is when not one of their players is using a model that they sell, or when they shove down our throats that they are #1 on tour without even the courtesy of the small fine print disclaimer that Callaway uses .

I smaller D2 head would be sooooooo sweet
Given that the whole marketing campaign when the 913 drivers came out centered around the D2 now has basically the same spin and launch characteristics as the D3 but was more forgiving, wouldn't a smaller D2 just be a rebranded D3?

Here is the info I have received from my contact about the new Titleist DOT drivers:

the dot driver has significantly forward CG. I know for a fact Dufner has been testing it extensively, and will have it in play nearly immediately. (I saw his Trackman testing session. Spin was WAY down.) Titleist has the same theory on weight that TM has--the forward CG is optimum, and the MOI, while lowered, is still above the "diminishing returns" line. Meaning that while the MOI is down, it is still above the number where someone sees real world difference. Anything higher is wasted.
I know for a fact that the Titleist Tour Reps have been working with Duf to find a 913 driver that he feels 100% comfortable with.

Duf uses the 910 D2 cuz it spins more and he needs MORE spin (he's already a low spin guy). He wants a driver he can work. That is one of the "fixes" in the 913 D2, it is a lower spinning driver. Doesn't work for Dufner but the other Titleist Tour staff guys that use the 913, love it.

"If" this is indeed one that has been done up Dufner, the idea behind it will be to be closer to what the 910 D2 does, spin more, not less.

Is it possible he is testing a higher lofted and lower spin model for optimal numbers? That also seems to be a trend.

I guess anything is possible but since he has said he wants one exactly like what he gets with his 910 D2 cuz he can work the ball the way he wants it, I don't think any version with low spin numbers is going to work.

If it did they would just move him into a higher lofted 913 D2 that they have now.
